About The Position

LOFT Community Services is a unique and dynamic charitable organization that supports people living with complicated issues such as mental and physical health challenges, substance use challenges, poverty and homelessness. Serving approximately 19,534 annually and providing 1,839 units of supportive housing last year, LOFT is one of Ontario’s largest mental health service providers of its kind. LOFT is also recognized as a Nonprofit Employer of Choice™ Award (NEOC) recipient. Ingles House is a structured abstinence-based home for female identified individuals between the ages of 18-35 who are recovering from substance use. The program encourages independence by supporting each woman in exploring their own strengths. Staff work closely with clients to develop an empathic, hopeful and continuous relationship, provide a range of support, and act as system navigators and advocates to connect clients with the resources they need. Staff meet one-to-one with clients to support the development of self-directed goals. Ingles House provides residents with an opportunity to explore and put into practice skills and resources acquired to support their recovery journey. Clients are part of a recovery community for up to twelve (12) months and share in the day-to-day operations of the household developing life skills that align with supporting their transition to the broader community. Staff work one-on-one with clients from a trauma-informed holistic approach, creating a safe, secure environment. Through goal development, clients are encouraged to explore and expand on personal resources and coping strategies to meet their desired outcomes. Through a team oriented professional approach, the position provides support to the client to increase their independence, dignity and self-respect, in a safe and secure environment by working within a team-based environment, you will support clients in achieving greater independence, dignity, and well-being within a safe and supportive housing setting.

Requirements

  • A relevant degree/diploma in human services or a related field.
  • At least 2+ years of experience working with the vulnerable populations.
  • Knowledge of the challenges faced by clients including those experiencing mental health issues mental health, addictions, cognitive impairments, HIV/AIDS etc.
  • Strong understanding of harm reduction and psychosocial rehabilitation principles.
  • Strong crisis intervention, problem-solving, and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Ability to build therapeutic relationships and collaborate with clients on goals and care plans.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and facilitating group activities or meetings.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, and counselling skills to support clients in sensitive and complex situations.
  • Effective organizational, time management, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in computer systems, documentation, and record-keeping.
  • A satisfactory vulnerable sector check (VSC) is also required.

Responsibilities

  • Build strong, respectful relationships with clients, providing coaching and hands-on support in daily living activities such as personal care, medication management, meal preparation, budgeting, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
  • Facilitate house meetings and group activities, support client engagement, assist with daily household operations, and ensure a safe, clean, and well-maintained living environment.
  • Help clients navigate healthcare and social service systems, maintain community partnerships, and support or accompany clients to appointments as needed, including participation in 24 hour crisis support.
  • Promote a psycho-social rehabilitation / recovery-oriented approach, including harm reduction, conflict resolution, and problem-solving to support positive shared living environments.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, contribute to program planning and evaluation, support team communication, and assist with scheduling, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
