About The Position

The purpose of this job is to oversee the day-to-day activities of a group home by providing a safe, secure and caring environment for our Residents. This position is a temporary position filling in for the permanent Residential Supervisor when they are on vacation or otherwise unavailable.

Requirements

  • Must have strong math knowledge and possess the ability to read and understand accounting reports and statements associated with managing an annual home budget and Resident accounts.
  • Candidates should have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of individual behavioral issues while maintaining control of a group home situation.
  • Must possess a minimum of a valid driver's license from the State of Texas.
  • While performing the duties of this job, an employee is frequently required to communicate by listening or writing.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; stoop; kneel; bend; crouch; crawl; and climb stairs.
  • The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or transfer a resident to and from a wheelchair or bed.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 lbs. when transferring a Resident to and from bed or wheelchair.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer undergraduate degree in psychology, sociology, human services or special education with 2 to 5 years experience working with developmentally challenged adults.
  • Previous experience supervising a group home is desirable but not required.
  • Candidates are expected to participate in on-going professional training opportunities to enhance their knowledge of specific disabilities in order to better understand the Resident's medical, psychological and vocational needs.
  • Candidates should possess personal characteristics such as patience, tolerance, and a willingness to learn more about specific disabilities and adapt expectations.
  • Candidates must possess strong written and verbal language skills and be competent in using Email, Share Point, Outlook, Office360 (Excel, Word), etc.
  • Consideration given to PMAB (Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behavior) training, CPR and first aid.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the daily activities of the Residents assigned to their care. These activities include personal hygiene, meal preparation, home maintenance, socialization, vocational, skill development and medical treatment regiments.
  • Plans meals, daily snacks and diets for the Residents; shops as necessary and supplies for the home to ensure adequate inventories of food and paper supplies are on hand to meet the needs of the home.
  • Distributes prescription medications to the Residents by following instructions and assures medication logs and records are completed as required.
  • Communicates with family and guardians through regular contact to report activities, issues or respond to questions related to their health and well-being.
  • Plans and participates in community life events, holiday celebrations, and fund-raising activities.
  • Residential Supervisor accompanies Residents on planned activities, both on and off campus, including leisure time activities.
  • Reports to management via Email and/or in person on a daily basis, verbally or in written reports, on each area of their responsibility.
  • Works safely and maintains a vigilant presence for the safety and well-being of the Residents and staff in their home.
  • Immediately corrects unsafe conditions in the home.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the residence including but not limited to cleaning bathrooms, kitchen and common areas daily.
  • Working with Residents to clean their individual rooms and maintain clean laundry.
  • Maintain a weekly chore list for Residents to ensure a well-run residence.
  • Teach Residents to take ownership of assigned tasks and chores.
  • If a Resident is sick or not able to attend work at BiG, the Residential Supervisor may be responsible for taking care of the Resident.
  • Parents will be contacted when necessary to pick up their child.
  • Responsible for the overall supervision and coordination of a group home.
  • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include planning, cleaning, assigning tasks, appraising performance, addressing complaints, and resolving problems in the home.
  • The Residential Supervisor is expected to work all hours and days outside the respite weekend and is on-call when the Residents are at work at BiG.
