About The Position

Mental Health Connecticut (MHC) is seeking a full-time Residential Specialist for its Mental Health Waiver program. This role involves providing Recovery Assistant (RA) and Community Support Program (CSP) services to individuals in recovery, focusing on mental health and substance abuse rehabilitation. The goal is to assist individuals in achieving and maintaining the highest degree of independent functioning through intensive, rehabilitative community support, crisis intervention, individual psycho-education, and skill-building for daily living. Services are primarily provided in non-office settings and are tailored to the individual's needs and preferences, aiming to maximize independence and facilitate community re-integration.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a related college degree or 2 years experience in human services/mental health field required.
  • Valid driver's license, auto registration, and insurance.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification strongly preferred (e.g., Recovery Assistant certificate).
  • Prior work experience with case management in community mental health/human services preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Implements the treatment plan using skills lists, skill-builder toolkits, and curricula.
  • Documents services provided using Electronic Health Record software and DMHAS databases (e.g., Sandata) for billing purposes.
  • Teaches, coaches, and assists with daily living and self-care skills (e.g., transportation, nutrition, meal planning, housekeeping, personal grooming, financial management, leisure activities, communication, safety, first aid, problem-solving).
  • Facilitates skill development to reduce disability, restore functioning, and promote independent participation in social, interpersonal, family, or community activities.
  • Teaches and engages individuals in the appropriate use of natural community supports and routine medical/dental services.
  • Teaches recovery skills to prevent relapse, including symptom recognition, coping strategies, emotional management, relaxation techniques, medication management, and advance directives.
  • Assists individuals with appropriate dress and basic hygiene, provides supportive assistance and supervision, and offers short-term relief for caregivers.
  • Develops self-advocacy skills for accessing resources and promotes healthy habits and adherence to appointments.
  • Conducts group treatment sessions (max four persons) focused on ADL skills.
  • Maintains a productivity rate of at least 90% of billable hours.
  • Engages with persons in recovery to ensure participation in programs and activities.
  • Ensures the safety of participants through proper supervision of the residence.
  • Acts as a liaison with participants' therapists, referral sources, and community agencies.
  • Willing and able to drive a personally owned vehicle locally and within the state, potentially transporting individuals.
