About The Position

The Director of Residential & Recreation Services (Res-Rec Dir) is responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, and supervising non-education direct-care staff to ensure 24/7 safety in activity areas and sleeping areas. This role serves as an integral member of the Management Executive Committee (MEC), contributing to strategic planning, business development, resource allocation, risk management, and performance improvement. The Director works collaboratively with other departments to implement Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) action plans and ensures compliance with state licensing standards for milieu management. This position requires strong communication skills and the ability to model appropriate attitudes and behaviors for staff and students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of two years of working in a behavioral health job, preferably with adolescents in a Residential Treatment Center
  • Strong communication skills: Listening, Speaking, and De-escalation.

Responsibilities

  • Designs training modules for Residential Counselors (RCs) with fellow Directors and Senior Residential Counselors (SRCs).
  • Conducts initial trainings for RCs.
  • Performs active Orientation, Training, Monitoring, Supervision, and Support (OTMSS) daily.
  • Holds staff accountable for conduct as described in Handbooks.
  • Groups students in activities considering their behavioral functioning and potential triggers, guiding the Scheduler to match staff strengths with student needs.
  • Understands and applies the LRA Progressive Disciplinary Plan.
  • Investigates critical incidents involving residents and staff interactions.
  • Notifies Compliance and the Executive Director of high-risk issues, tracks trends, and provides preventative actions.
  • Ensures compliance with state licensing standards relevant to milieu management.
  • Communicates effectively with teachers, clinicians, and support employees.
  • Ensures RCs use good documentation skills when necessary.
  • Attends selected shift change, treatment team, and other meetings.
  • Interacts with parents, sponsors, educational consultants, or referral sources.
  • Models appropriate attitudes and behaviors for all staff and students.
  • Responds promptly to urgent needs or crisis situations.
  • Studies student Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and ensures RCs implement the Phase System consistently.
  • Accesses Nurses regarding student health issues, ensures staff are informed, and works with clinicians to keep parents informed.
  • Knows and keeps updated on performance expectations detailed in RC Job Descriptions.
  • Serves effectively as CSL (Clinical Supervisor) when requested.
  • Performs other duties as requested by the Executive Director.
  • Completes work thoroughly, promptly, and efficiently; manages multiple tasks.
  • Analyzes successes and shortcomings, then problem-solves with determination and creativity.
  • Supports approved decisions, completing tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Holds self, fellow staff, and students accountable for fulfilling commitments.
  • Makes well-informed decisions, consulting when necessary, and implements practical solutions.
  • Communicates collaboratively, acknowledging messages quickly.
  • Reads and adheres to updated LRA practices, promptly reporting violations.
  • Maintains confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Follows all safety regulations and suggests improvements.

  • Demonstrates understanding of BIPs by consistently using them.
  • Uses IEP, ISP, and BIP objectives when implementing activities.
  • Completes necessary documentation within specified times.
  • Reviews critical incidents and participates in root-cause analysis.
  • Greets visitors, parents, and reviewers with a smile and respect.
  • Models ethical behavior when resolving conflicts.
  • Contributes to long-term planning, promotes data collection, and supports CQI initiatives.
  • Allocates resources efficiently, manages budgets, and reports variances.
  • Participates in making Admission, Rejection, and Ejection determinations.
