About The Position

The Residential Life Manager for the YOLA National Festival is a part-time, seasonal position from July 31st – August 11th, 2026 , in Los Angeles, CA with limited remote work beginning in mid-March (approx. 8-10 hours/week). The Residential Life Manager will work in conjunction with the Culture and Residential Life Director and LA Phil staff to ensure a highly organized, safe and exciting residential life experience for YNF. This includes creating a sense of “off-stage” community, managing residence hall life, and implementing safety and security measures that ensure participants have the supervision and support they need. All flights, lodging, meals, and transportation for the Residential Life Manager will be provided by the LA Phil. The Residential Life Manager must be fully available from July 31st – August 11th This position will include evening and weekend responsibilities. This is a live-on campus position at Los Angeles location. Live-on campus dates include August 3rd – August 11th, 2026. Residential Residential Life Manager's will have the following mandatory trainings to be completed between July 31st and August 2nd, 2026: CPR / First Aid Certification to be completed in person before the festival Sexual harassment, workplace violence, mandatory reporting course to be completed virtually before the festival Residential Life Managers will also support training sessions and meetings leading up to the festival in conjunction with the Culture and Residential Life Director.

Requirements

  • Experience working with youth aged 12-18
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Must adhere to the highest standards of role-modeling and positive behaviors around and toward staff, students and faculty
  • Detail oriented with strong interpersonal skills and a desire to work on a highly collaborate, intrinsically motivated team
  • Experience coordinating youth focused programs and implementing systems to achieve programmatic goals
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a solutions-oriented approach to challenges
  • Ability to prioritize workload, efficient and effective worker
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment in a self-directed way
  • Fluency in all Microsoft suites components and remote working tools (Slack, Google, Zoom, etc.)
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds is preferred
  • Must escalate any identified problems or concerns to the Culture and Residence Life Director or to the Manager, YOLA National in a timely manner
  • Must maintain and report accurate hours worked
  • Must be CPR, First Aid and AED Certified, session to be held upon arrival as needed
  • Must be at least 21 years or older at the time of the festival
  • Be an active and participatory member of the YOLA National team and engage with all events for the YOLA National Festival
  • Attend meetings related to events and projects you are tasked with and actively communicating conflicts and preparing for any meetings that cannot be attended.
  • Complete various tasks within established time frames.
  • Ability to work with multiple priorities that may need swift reorganization.
  • Strong independent work and proactively identify and assess effective methods of work operation.
  • Have excellent communication skills, with attention to detail, strong sense of empathy and a proactive nature.
  • Have the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with excellent judgment and discretion.
  • Maintain professionalism in all instances and embrace serving as a representative of the festival, the YOLA program and the LA Phil in this role
  • Interact with stakeholders of the YOLA community, including but not limited to administrators, partners, teaching artists, alumni, parents, and young musicians.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and co-lead comprehensive Residential Life staff trainings
  • Implement residential life programs as directed by the Culture and Residential Life Director.
  • Ensure that the implementation of programs are in line with the safety protocols of YOLA and LA Phil
  • Remotely Build activity systems and implement them live with the support of Resident Counselors.
  • Oversee the organization and inventory management of all supplies necessary for residential life programming.
  • Coordinate and manage the daily residential schedule, including meals, evening programming, personal practice time, bathroom facilitation, dorm free time, lights-out procedures, and more.
  • Lead Residential Life Staff, balancing diverse working styles and a demanding schedule while empowering staff to complete tasks efficiently and take appropriate breaks.
  • Oversee Residence Life Program for participants
  • Coordinate on campus housing check-in, check-out process
  • Implement rooming assignments
  • Coordinate mealtimes and processes, including offsite or catered meals as needed
  • Following consequence protocols/actions for participants as necessary
  • Implement safety procedures and responses for participants as necessary
  • Support young musicians’ emotional well-being as they adjust to staying away from home in the residential setting.
  • Coordinate camp movement from (Campus) to Walt Disney Concert Hall and Beckmen YOLA Center, and work with Travel Coordinators and Culture and Residential Life Director on daily transportation needs, bus distribution, rooming assignments, and luggage movements for arrival and departure from LAX
  • Manage wardrobe sizing and distribution for participants
  • Other duties as assigned
