About The Position

The Liliʻuokalani Summer Intensive Program offered by the Liliʻuokalani Center is a youth development program focused on inspiring and empowering Native Hawaiian youth. It provides a variety of pathways for youth ages 12-18 to explore their passions and develop skills and talents, while staying connected to their culture. The program's pathways include creative media, performing arts, wellness, sports, culinary, and entrepreneurship—all embedded with cultural experiences and identity growth and development. The Residential Program Manager SUMMER is a key leadership role responsible for creating a safe, inclusive, and enriching residential experience for high school students attending Liliʻuokalani Summer Intensive Program and staying at Hawaiʻi Pacific University (HPU) dormitories. This individual oversees the dormitory life of residents, supervises residential staff, and collaborates closely with program leadership to support the emotional and social wellbeing of all participants. The ideal candidate is passionate about youth development, arts education, and residential life, with strong leadership and conflict-resolution skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, arts administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in residential life, youth programs, or camp settings; experience with high school students strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and crisis management skills.
  • Experience supervising staff and managing group dynamics.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in arts education or working with young artists.
  • Training in youth mental health, conflict mediation, or diversity & inclusion practices.
  • Familiarity with camp management software or scheduling tools.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support dormitory operations and ensure all safety, health, and behavioral protocols are followed.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for resident housing-related issues.
  • Monitor resident wellbeing and proactively address emotional, social, or behavioral concerns.
  • Manage residential staff: Youth Engagement Specialists-Summer.
  • Lead daily staff check-ins and maintain open communication with all team members.
  • Ensure all staff are adhering to organization and program policies and procedures.
  • Foster a positive and respectful residential culture that aligns with the organization’s positive youth development mission.
  • Develop and oversee evening activities that enhance the residential experience.
  • Encourage inclusion, peer support, and healthy social interactions among residents.
  • Respond to emergencies, behavioral incidents, and mental health concerns in collaboration with resident staff.
  • Maintain clear and accurate incident reports and documentation.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians as needed regarding resident wellbeing or incidents.
  • Assist with resident check-in/check-out procedures and dormitory assignments.
  • Track attendance, curfews, and residents' movement using program protocols and software.
  • Coordinate with facilities and housekeeping to ensure clean, safe, and welcoming living environments.
  • Travel to and from neighbor islands to accompany youth as needed on Sundays and Fridays during the program.
