About The Position

This role is for a Residential Instructor who will be responsible for meeting job functions and requirements, including the ability to lift 70-75lbs and utilize approved protective hold techniques. The position involves working with youth who may potentially cause harm to themselves or others. In addition to core duties, this role will assist the Program Manager in areas such as scheduling and maintaining adequate staffing, ensuring data sheets are current and complete, participating in training, overseeing the residential home in the Program Manager's absence, participating in the Interdisciplinary Team process, and assisting with program development for clients based on their Individual Plan of Service. The Residential Instructor will also work with consultants to ensure recommended services are adhered to, act as a role model, participate in staff meetings, aid in maintaining positive community relationships, and ensure compliance with CRI Policies and Procedures. Daily site maintenance and supervision of staff are also key responsibilities, along with rotating on-call coverage for staffing issues and problems.

Requirements

  • Valid CT driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Must be able to become certified in CPR and First Aid.
  • Must become Medication Administration Certified within 4 months of the date of hire and be responsible for renewing all required certifications.
  • Demonstrate organizational ability.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with adults who are developmentally disabled.
  • Demonstrate ability to supervise and guide other staff while acting on behalf of the Program Manager.
  • Demonstrate ability to maintain consumers’ right to privacy, and adhere to CRI’s Confidentiality policy.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current issues in the field of Developmental Disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Program Manager in scheduling and maintaining adequate staffing.
  • Ensure client care and activity schedules are maintained.
  • Ensure that data sheets are current and complete.
  • Participate in CRI in-service training and assist with staff in-servicing.
  • Be responsible for overall running of the residential home in the absence of the Program Manager.
  • Participate in the Interdisciplinary Team process and provide input and write reports as needed.
  • Assist with all other duties designated by the Program Manager.
  • Assist the Program Manager with the development of programs for each client based on the needs stated in the Individual Plan of Service.
  • Work with all consultants to ensure necessary services recommended by the consultants are adhered to.
  • Conduct him/herself as a good role model to clients and staff.
  • Participate in all staff meetings.
  • Aid CRI in maintaining positive relationships with the community.
  • Familiarize self with CRI Policies and Procedures, ensuring compliance with same.
  • Help maintain a clean program site inclusive of cleaning, vacuuming, etc., on a daily basis per supervisor direction.
  • Provide supervision to staff while working within the staff complement.
  • Rotate the on-call coverage with the manager to handle staffing issues and any problems that arise.
