About The Position

The Residential Instructor position involves providing direct care and support to clients in a residential setting. This role requires creating a positive learning environment, implementing treatment plans, monitoring client well-being, and maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the home. The position demands a high level of responsibility, compassion, and professionalism in interacting with clients, families, and colleagues.

Requirements

  • Valid CT driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Physical Management Training (PMT).
  • First Aid, CPR, and Medication Certification (CPR and FA within 45 days of hire; Medication Administration Certification within 4 months of hire).
  • Ability to attend all required training and in-servicing.
  • Good to excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Thoroughness and effective follow-through on daily work assignments.
  • Motivation and interest in improving the quality of life for the population served.
  • Optimistic attitude, patience, and compassion for and with the population served.
  • Appropriate boundaries with residents and coworkers.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor while in the workplace.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree preferred with at least one year experience in the Human Services field.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all job functions required, including lifting and transferring 70-75lbs.
  • Utilize approved protective hold techniques and work with clients who may cause harm.
  • Create a positive learning environment and develop strategies to help clients cope with stressful situations.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and skills in dealing with clients' reactions to past traumatic and emotional events.
  • Implement Treatment Plan (DCF) or Individual Plan of Care (DDS) and document client progress.
  • Monitor medical, physical, and behavioral changes in clients daily and report to supervisors.
  • Administer medication to clients as prescribed, if medically certified, and document administration.
  • Follow written behavioral and dietary plans, assist with meal preparation and supply purchasing.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the home (inside and outside), assist with laundry, and maintain agency vehicle.
  • Maintain client right to privacy and adhere to confidentiality policy.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner when interacting with all stakeholders.
  • Supervise family visitation as assigned.
  • Participate in mandatory training, in-services, staff meetings, and conferences.
  • Take clients to community-based outings and recreational activities.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
