About The Position

The Residential Instructor position involves actively working with youth in a residential setting, both inside and outside the home. This role requires creating a positive learning environment, developing strategies to help clients cope with daily living situations, and facilitating independent performance. The instructor will demonstrate sensitivity and skills in dealing with clients' reactions to past traumatic and emotional events, providing compassion, understanding, limit setting, and a stable living environment. A key part of the role is implementing Treatment Plans or Individual Plans of Care, recording data, reporting client progress, and maintaining awareness of current plans. The instructor will monitor clients' medical, physical, and behavioral changes daily, reporting any changes to supervisors and documenting issues. When medically certified, the instructor will administer medication and document its administration. They will also follow behavioral and dietary plans, assist with meal preparation and supply purchasing, and maintain the cleanliness of the home and agency vehicle. Adherence to client privacy and confidentiality policies is essential. The role requires professional conduct when interacting with all stakeholders and may involve supervising family visitations and conducting community-based outings and recreational activities.

Requirements

  • Valid CT driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Associate's Degree preferred with at least one year experience in the Human Services field.
  • Physical Management Training (PMT).
  • First Aid, CPR and Medication Certification (must obtain CPR and FA within 45 days of hire; Medication Administration Certification within 4 months of hire).
  • Ability to attend all required training and in-servicing.
  • Good to excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Thoroughness and effective follow through on daily work assignments.
  • Motivation and interest in improving the quality of life for the population served.
  • Optimistic attitude, patience, and compassion for and with the population served.
  • Demonstrate appropriate boundaries with residents and coworkers maintaining a professional demeanor.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all job functions required, including lifting and transferring 70-75lbs.
  • Utilize approved protective hold techniques and work with clients who may potentially cause harm.
  • Create a positive learning environment and develop strategies to help clients cope with stressful situations.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and skills with clients dealing with reactions to past traumatic and emotional events.
  • Implement Treatment Plan (DCF) or Individual Plan of Care (DDS) and record data on teaching strategies and behavior systems.
  • Monitor medical, physical, and behavioral changes in clients daily and report to supervisors.
  • Administer medication to clients as prescribed (when qualified and certified).
  • Follow written behavioral and dietary plans for each client and assist with meal preparation and supply purchasing.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the home (inside and outside) and assist with laundry care.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the agency vehicle and report any maintenance needs.
  • Maintain client right to privacy and adhere to Confidentiality Policy.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner when interacting with supervisors, coworkers, clients, and their families.
  • Supervise family visitation as assigned.
  • Participate in mandatory training, including in-services, staff meetings, and conferences.
  • Take clients to community-based outings and recreational activities using an agency vehicle.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
