About The Position

We are seeking an intern to provide technical support for our Mass Market programs, which help customers use energy more efficiently. The role focuses on carbon reduction, understanding how the utility world is transforming through efficiency improvement and electrification, and analyzing the equipment utilized by residential customers. The intern will collaborate closely with team members to share technical information across internal and external teams. This position is located at the corporate office in Denver, CO. This position is for a May 31, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Requirements

  • Current student, Junior or higher (as of Fall 2027)
  • Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Engineering or Computer Science
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge or coursework in Data Analytics.
  • Knowledge or coursework in Thermodynamics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (with an emphasis on Excel). Experience with Python preferred.
  • Strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate Real Customer Projects: Be a driving force in program implementation; you'll evaluate and review actual customer energy projects that make a tangible environmental impact.

  • Flex Your Coding Skills: Put your programming chops to work by writing code (like Python or VBA) to analyze energy datasets, automate engineering workflows, or support building energy modeling.
  • Build Your Professional Network: Collaborate across multiple internal and external teams, learning how to translate complex technical data into clear, actionable insights for the real world.
