About The Position

The PRN Residential Counselor is dedicated to our adolescent clients and is responsible for providing care and treatment as outlined in the client’s treatment plan. This role functions as a member of the client’s treatment team as outlined in the policy and procedures manual. The position requires the employee to effectively implement cottage activities of daily living, maintain clients’ personal hygiene, cleanliness, grooming, and clothing, and adhere to infection control procedures and practices universal precautions. The counselor must effectively and appropriately set limits with clients, escort clients safely to activities or appointments, and adhere to established guidelines for observing clients on special precautions. Additionally, the role involves leading recreational activities, modeling appropriate and professional behavior, adhering to proper guidelines for intervening with physically aggressive clients, and relating with clients, parents, peers, and the general public in a respectful and professional manner. The counselor ensures client needs and services are provided within departmental guidelines, demonstrates knowledge of disaster and safety plans, and maintains a professional attitude while actively supporting agency philosophy and goals. The position requires a willingness to work on varying assignments and complete them per department and agency schedules. The employee must execute sound judgment by effectively analyzing problems, determining appropriate actions, and utilizing timely and logical decision-making skills, including working effectively as a team member. The role also involves actively seeking self-improvement opportunities, displaying adaptability to changes in work duties or settings, and utilizing interpersonal skills for focusing, active involvement, and participation. The employee must report to work on time as scheduled and provide proper notification for absences and tardiness. The staff member demonstrates an awareness and understanding of the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the client and implements this understanding in the client’s treatment. Finally, the counselor acquires up-to-date information on clients through pass downs, emails, and team minutes.

Requirements

Associate’s degree REQUIRED with at least 1 year experience with at-risk children / mental health experience
Must be able to effectively use crisis intervention techniques.
Valid Florida driver’s license in good standing
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Basic computer knowledge
Strong organizational skills.
