In this position, you will guide and support Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs), oversee daily client activities, ensure program standards are met, and help maintain a structured, supportive environment. You’ll play a key role in staff development, training, and supervision while ensuring high‑quality care aligned with regulatory and agency expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, psychiatric nursing, or a closely related field OR High school diploma and two (2) years of experience in substance abuse or mental health treatment, including at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect and fingerprint check.
  • Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.
  • All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.
  • Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.
  • Training in the procedures of detoxification in a social setting or modified medical as applicable, as outlined in certification standards, within three (3) months of employment for applicable programs.
  • Behavioral Management training completed within thirty (30) days of employment or first available class after start date: CPI for Residential programs OR Peaceful Intervention or Verbal De-escalation for Outpatient programs.
  • Medication Administration training completed within thirty (30) days of employment. Outpatient programs are not required to complete this training.
  • Achievement of thirty-six (36) hour training requirements within 2 year period in accordance with 9 CSR 10-7.110 E 1.
  • Direct Service Expectations form within thirty (30) days of employment.
  • If transporting clients the following will be required: Verification of Limits of Liability on personal car insurance within thirty (30) days of employment and annually thereafter.
  • Obtain a Driver's license in the state of Residency. Eligibility to obtain within 30 days following the date of hire.
  • For adolescent program only: Within the first year of employment, receive training on adolescent behavior, family dynamics, communication skills, incest, sexual abuse, physical and emotional abuse, stress management and the effect of peer pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Interviewing/hiring and training of BHTs.
  • Providing supervision/monitoring of clients/patients modeling appropriate behavior and providing a safe/therapeutic environment.
  • Ensuring all BHTs working shifts are adequately trained and oriented to program rules and expectations.
  • Provides ongoing supervision to BHT staff including regular observation of BHT job duties and regular spot checking on video footage of staff interaction with client population.
  • Ensures all policy and procedures are adhered to for client care.
  • Lead and support Behavioral Health Technicians by providing ongoing supervision, coaching, and real‑time guidance to ensure high‑quality client care.
  • Coordinate daily client activities, promote a therapeutic environment, and help clients understand program expectations and rights.
  • Facilitate staff training, onboarding, and individualized development plans to strengthen team performance.
  • Monitor staff interactions through observation and video review to ensure safety, professionalism, and adherence to behavioral health standards.
  • Schedule BHT shifts, maintain adequate staffing coverage, and manage overtime within program guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with CARF, State Regulatory, and agency standards, including documentation, medication management, and UA procedures.
  • Conduct monthly staff meetings and trainings, maintaining required documentation.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings to support communication between BHTs and clinical staff.
  • Complete evaluations, status notices, and supervisory documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist with facilitating educational groups and support the development of programming schedules.
  • Perform technician duties as needed under the direction of the Program Director or designee.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by leadership.
  • Communicate the strategic direction of the organization and encourage participation by all team members.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to all aspects of the department.
  • Take an active role in monitoring the identification, development, and execution of strategic objectives.
  • Involve, as appropriate, all team members to achieve goals.
  • Effectively communicate to team members any changes and newsworthy events within the department or company.
  • Handle difficult team member situations directly, using appropriate discretion and Human Resource advice to show respect for the individual.
  • Champion change and effectively manage the implementation of new ideas.
  • Reinforces team approach throughout functions; support and solicit input from team members at all levels within the company.
