About The Position

Prince William County’s Department of Development Services is offering creative, challenging and rewarding work as a Residential Combination Inspector. We are looking for motivated professionals who will take the lead and solve problems. The Department of Development Services promotes staff and customers working in a partnership through effective and efficient development processes to ensure compliance with building regulations. We are looking for customer-service-minded individuals for our Inspections Branch to provide high-quality service to our customers while embracing their essential role as “first preventers.” This position offers paid training and County-sponsored educational opportunities!

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • 3 years of related experience
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to pass a DMV check
  • Successful completion of a DMV Check
  • Successful completion of a Pre-Employment Physical

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years of construction and/or building code experience
  • Experience in inspecting residential and/or commercial structures to applicable code standards
  • Certified in at least one building trade
  • Good to above average computer skills
  • Working knowledge of and the ability to interpret applicable codes
  • Ability to interpret plans, specifications and/or blueprints
  • Must become certified by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development as a Technical Assistant to the Building Official within 18 months of employment and certified as a Virginia Residential Combination Inspector within 36 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform residential and commercial construction inspections
  • Conduct project research
  • Write inspection reports
  • Perform data entry into the EnerGov Permitting System
  • Assist customers in navigating the different programs required for permitting and inspecting construction-related projects
  • Brainstorm different approaches to resolve customer issues
