About The Position

The Residential Charge Nurse is a Registered Nurse with demonstrated leadership skills and clinical excellence in service delivery in the behavioral health field. The Residential Charge Nurse oversees FLACRA’s medical and clinical operations and staff in alignment with FLACRA’s mission, vision, values, and brand pledge. The Residential Charge Nurse demonstrates advanced clinical and medical knowledge, communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism, and systems-based practice.

Requirements

  • RN Degree required.
  • Three to five years of related behavioral health experience is required.
  • Valid NYS Drivers’ License.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with culturally diverse persons, staff, and community service providers.
  • Demonstrated supervision of staff and operations oversight
  • Proficient computer skills to generate reports and produce electronic records.
  • Ability to multi-task, and have good problem-solving & time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • E-record competency.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to manage medical emergencies in a detox setting.
  • Leadership and team-building abilities.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and therapeutic rapport.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years of leadership or coordination experience in behavioral health care is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight to RNs, LPNs, clinical and support staff during assigned shifts. Ensure staff assignments are completed.
  • Assign duties and ensure adequate staffing coverage for residential programs.
  • Serve as a clinical and medical oversight for nursing and clinical staff.
  • Monitor and evaluate staff performance and provide coaching as needed.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, therapists, case managers, and support staff.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings such as MDT/Huddle and contribute to individualized treatment plans.
  • Communicate patient status updates to providers, staff and appropriate internal and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitate continuity of care during admissions, transfers, discharges and aftercare.
  • Monitor medication storage, counts, and controlled substance documentation.
  • Oversight of nurse-to-nurse reports including documentation.
  • Ensure adequate information is included in shift report.
  • Oversight of shift change reports including ensuring all staff are present.
  • Participate in audits, incident reporting, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR regulations.
  • Provide patient education on medications, withdrawal management, and health promotion.
  • Ensure staff are following FLACRA policy and procedures such as dress code.
  • Support patients experiencing acute withdrawal symptoms with trauma-informed, patient-centered care.
  • Assist in staff training related to detox protocols, signs and symptoms of addiction and acute mental health, emergency procedures, and best practices in addiction medicine.
  • Provides direct documented supervision to all nursing and clinical staff regularly through audits and observations.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, coaching, and support to the program leadership, nursing staff, and clinical staff.
  • Ensure that each staff maintains appropriate certifications and abides by the standards for care established by our organization and state and federal laws.
  • Ensures compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Giving direct feedback and support for nursing and clinical personnel issues to promote a productive and supportive work environment.
  • Monitor clinical records such as admissions and discharges.
  • Monitor patient care for quality.
  • Ensures daily reconciliation of methadone.
  • Ensures timely medication ordering and medication destruction as needed.
  • Coordinates with providers, nursing and clinical staff to ensure quality and continuity of care.
  • Facilitate patient education, both individually and in groups.
  • Participate in general, staff, in-service, and supervisory meetings held by the Agency.
  • Attend conferences and training.
  • Provide oversight and guidance with outsourced pharmacy services.
  • Incident reporting route cause analysis, education, and training as appropriate, collaboratively with Quality Assurance and program leadership.
  • Assists Quality Assurance and program leadership with revisions and review of established policies and procedures, and the introduction of new policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties and functions as directed.
