About The Position

The Developmental Disabilities Association (DDA) is seeking a Residential Care Worker (RCW) to assist residents in group homes with their physical, emotional, social, and recreational needs. This role supports individuals with developmental disabilities to reach their full potential by upholding their rights and promoting self-determination. The RCW helps residents live successfully in community residential settings, ensuring their physical, emotional, social, recreational, economic, educational, and/or medical needs are met. The position enhances residents' quality of life through daily living activities and requires the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and sound judgment in problem-solving.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in an area directly related to supporting people with developmental disabilities such as Social Services, Human Services, or Education.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, or related equivalent experience.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR upon start date.
  • Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Willingness to obtain a Class 4 Unrestricted Driver's License during probation period.
  • Satisfactory driver's abstract.
  • Criminal Record Clearance.
  • Must have training in positive behavior support.
  • Medical Clearance (must be able to perform lifts and transfers of 40 lbs).
  • TB Test Clearance.
  • Competency in English written and verbal communication.
  • Eligible to work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with, or training in, areas of adaptive communication, and community care is an asset.
  • Experience in supporting mental health and positive Behavioral Reinforcement preferred.
