Residential Building Attendant
About The Position
We provide housing and a range of support services to adults with low or no income who have few, if any, housing or support options. Because the people we serve have challenges meeting basic needs and goals, we place minimal barriers between them and our services. For more information about Lookout, please visit www.lookoutsociety.ca The Building Attendant (BA) reports to the Site Manager and works in accordance with the mission and philosophy of Lookout Housing and Health Society, including following Lookout’s Code of Ethics. Building Attendants perform a variety of administrative, maintenance, and security functions within the residence managed by Lookout. This position requires successful completion of respirator fit testing, as Lookout is COR (certificate of recognition) certified and must comply with WorkSafeBC health and safety requirements. To ensure a proper respirator seal during fit testing and use, employees are required to be clean-shaven where the respirator seals against the face.
Requirements
- Minimum Grade 12 education plus two (2) years of recent related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Must have current Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate.
- Ability to work independently or in a team setting.
- Strong ability to manage stress and organize workload.
- Excellent communication, writing, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Understands and maintains clientele/worker boundaries.
- Ability to work with disadvantaged and challenging adults in a diverse environment.
- Strong physical and mental ability to perform work tasks and operate job related equipment.
- A minimum of two (2) years of sobriety if you have had concerns related to alcohol and/or drug use.
- Criminal Record Clearance – Vulnerable Sector.
- Must be clean-shaven where the respirator seals against the face for respirator fit testing and use.

Responsibilities
- Perform administrative tasks related to property management such as: rent collection, security deposits, petty cash.
- Perform maintenance work and repair duties such as repairing furniture, installing switches, replacing plugs, and other basic appliance repairs.
- Prepare estimates of maintenance and repair costs for management.
- Perform a variety of cleaning duties, garbage removal, and monitor disposal services.
- Monitor condition and cleanliness of client rooms, and ensure a safe and secure environment.
- Assist new staff, oversee volunteers, and work with all staff to ensure facilities meet the needs of guests.
- Maintain manual and computerized reports and records on an ongoing basis.
- Remain alert and attentive during working hours. Sleeping during shifts is not permitted.
- Comply with and contribute to all aspects of the health and safety program.
