About The Position

Mental Health Kokua (MHK) is hiring a Residential Assistant in Kailua-Kona (Big Island) to support adults with mental health challenges in a brand-new community-based residential home. This full-time, on-site role provides hands-on support with daily living, routines, and safety in a shared housing environment designed to promote stability, recovery, and new beginnings. As a Residential Assistant, you’ll help create a safe, welcoming home from the ground up — building supportive relationships, establishing daily routines, and fostering an environment where residents can grow their independence and confidence. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a newly opening Kona residential program and help shape a positive home culture from the very beginning. This role is well-suited for applicants living in Kailua-Kona or nearby West Hawaiʻi communities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Reliability, compassion, clear communication, and emotional resilience
• TB clearance, CPR, and First Aid (or willingness to obtain)
• Comfortable working in a shared housing environment supporting adults in a community-based setting
• Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and respond to emergencies

Nice To Haves

• Experience or coursework in behavioral health, human services, or supportive housing

Responsibilities

• Assist residents with communication, personal care, meals, and routines
• Maintain safety, respond to emergencies, and document incidents
• Encourage goals using person-centered, trauma-informed practices
• Support social, recreational, vocational, and educational activities
• Support resident participation in community responsibilities and activities
• Assist with shopping, cleaning, and basic upkeep
• Complete documentation and communicate resident needs
• Work with supervisors, case managers, and team members
