About The Position

DeKalb County Government is seeking experienced CDL Drivers for Automated Side Loader (ASL) and Rear Loader opportunities within Solid Waste Management. This classification is safety sensitive, subject to random drug testing in accordance with the County’s Drug & Alcohol Policy. Classification and placement will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications, applicable experience, and the requirements of the position. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a valid 12-month DOT Medical Blue Card as a condition of employment for some departments.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• One year of experience operating heavy equipment and/or driving and operating heavy trucks.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Some assignments may require a Class A CDL and/or special endorsements.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid 12-month DOT Medical Blue Card.

Responsibilities

• Operates rear-loading, automated, semi-automated, and other heavy trucks and equipment to collect and transport solid waste along assigned routes.
• Positions vehicles for safe and efficient collection, loading, and dumping of materials.
• Operates truck-mounted mechanisms to collect, secure, and compact solid waste.
• Monitors collection activities to ensure timely route completion.
• Ensures loads are properly balanced, covered, secured, and contained.
• Monitors the work environment to ensure the safety of employees, equipment, and the public.
• Obeys all traffic laws, safety guidelines, and operating procedures.
• Performs vehicle inspections and basic equipment maintenance.
• Performs manual refuse collection and other related duties as required.
