About The Position

The Residential Advocate for the Emergency Housing Services (EHS) Program provides on-site support within a residential setting serving families and single adults experiencing housing instability. This role ensures daily operations run smoothly, safety protocols are upheld, and participants receive consistent, trauma-informed support. The Residential Advocate maintains a visible presence within the program, monitors the environment to ensure safety and structure, and provides emotional support and guidance to participants as needed. This is an in-person role requiring active engagement, professionalism, and strong boundary-setting.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • Strong communication and de-escalation skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • In possession of a valid CA driver's license, proof of insurance, and be approved by RP insurance as a driver in order to drive agency vehicles.
  • Able to complete all required background checks.
  • Additional requirements may be deemed necessary, including fingerprinting (Live Scan), completion of all Community Care Licensing (CCL) documents, a suitability process through ORR and ability to meet CCL licensing requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field preferred.
  • Experience working in residential, shelter, or social service settings preferred.
  • Experience working with families or individuals experiencing housing instability preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain active, visible presence within the residential setting.
  • Monitor common areas and facility grounds to ensure safety and adherence to program expectations.
  • Support enforcement of house guidelines and community agreements.
  • Respond to incidents, conflicts, or safety concerns in a calm and professional manner.
  • Complete required incident documentation accurately and timely.
  • Support emergency procedures as needed.
  • Provide emotional support and appropriate crisis response to participants.
  • Engage participants respectfully and consistently in a trauma-informed manner.
  • Assist participants in understanding program expectations and available services.
  • Provide referrals to Case Managers when additional support is needed.
  • Support new participant orientation upon arrival.
  • Conduct room checks and routine walkthroughs as required.
  • Support shift transitions and ensure accurate communication between staff.
  • Maintain clear and thorough shift logs.
  • Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming environment.
  • Communicate operational concerns to supervisory staff promptly.
  • Work closely with Case Managers and leadership to ensure coordinated support.
  • Participate in team meetings and reflective supervision.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold mandated reporting responsibilities.
  • Complete functional timesheets by assigned due dates in compliance with time allocations.
  • Actively participate in reflective supervision sessions.
  • Create and maintain documentation of processes and procedures related to job duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.
