Position Overview : Teacher Residents report to the School Leaders and will be responsible for assisting in the classroom while fostering the social and emotional growth of students. Teacher Residency Yu Ming’s Teacher Residency program is a hands-on program where paid teaching residents gain experience and mentorship in the classroom while earning their California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. Teacher residents who have an intern credential and successfully complete one year of residency are eligible to apply for a full-time Teacher role. In this residency year you will: Earn a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential through an accredited program Work as a Small Group Instructor in a Yu Ming classroom and learn from a highly-effective Mentor Teacher five days per week. Build a relationship with an expert instructional leader, who will advise and support you through one-on-one observation and dialogue. Engage in critical conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion with your mentor, instructors, and peers. Receive priority consideration for a full-time position upon completing the program.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in a teacher credential program OR possess a CA teaching credential
  • A four-year degree from an accredited university (to be eligible for teacher credential program)
  • Native or near native fluency in Mandarin Chinese and professional proficiency in English (if a Mandarin Homeroom Resident Teacher)
  • Native near native fluency in English (if an English Resident Teacher)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a classroom aide and/or coursework in Education/Special Education preferred

Responsibilities

  • Developing teaching skills through regular feedback and coaching
  • Providing individual, small group, or whole group instruction for students
  • Supporting the lead teacher in lesson planning, materials preparation, and student assessment
  • Working with students to reinforce learning of content or skills as described in an Individualized Education Plan
  • Committing to constant professional and personal growth through working closely with a team of teachers
  • Constantly assessing student progress, and communicating results to families and colleagues
  • Modeling the school’s values in all communications with students, families, and staff
  • Actively participating in professional development activities, including: training sessions and working with lead teacher, school leaders, instructional coaches
  • Perform other school related duties as required and assigned (such as assisting with lunch, recess, dismissal, etc)
  • Act as substitute for classrooms when lead teachers are not available (no extra compensation)

Benefits

  • $24.80 per hour plus benefits, commensurate with experience.
