About The Position

Fordham Bedford Housing Corporation is a nonprofit community development organization that has been providing safe, sound and affordable housing in the Northwest Bronx since 1980. We have over 40 years of experience and have continued to grow steadily throughout that time from a small operation to now serving over 4,000 households. This position is responsible for assisting candidates and residents in locating appropriating housing. They are responsible for reviewing the income and tax credit eligibility of each and prospective applicants.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Paychex Flex, Yadri, RealPage, Gmail, Incheck, Zoom, Google Workplace, CheckScan.
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A. / B. S.) from four-year college or university; and four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC)
  • Extensive knowledge of Fair Housing Act (FHA), Housing Preservation Development(HPD), Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), and other government programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail skills
  • Excellent problem solving and time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Interviews applicants and determine eligibility for housing programs.
  • Assists residents with rectifying their annual income compliance in their apartments.
  • Processes maintenance request and rent payments.
  • Assists applicants with paperwork and the application process; verifies the accuracy of the information submitted.
  • Conducts tours of properties for potential residents.
  • Provides support services such as workshops to highlight and explain available services and options for applicants.
  • Maintains records, collecting and completing all required documentation.
  • Follow-ups on maintenance requests.
  • Explains housing authority regulations to applicants; facilitates and ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Prepares operations reports to submit to city officials.
  • Facilitate communication and act as a coordinator between property management staff and retained landlord-tenant attorneys on non-payment, holdover and other relevant legal issues.
  • Performs other related duties as needed.
