About The Position

The Resident Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency (ROSS) Coordinator is a hands-on, relationship-driven role rooted in the community. This position serves as a catalyst for economic independence among residents by engaging directly with them to connect them to life-changing resources and help them transform their circumstances. The role is active, dynamic, and deeply human, with days rarely looking the same. Significant time will be spent out in the community, in residents' homes, at community events, partner agency offices, and LRHA properties, building trust and removing barriers to self-sufficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Human Services, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in case management or direct services with low-income individuals or families.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Valid driver's license and insurability under LRHA's vehicle plan.
  • Competency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, with the ability to learn new software as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-home visits, phone interviews, and one-on-one meetings to assess needs across areas like employment, finances, housing stability, childcare, and health.
  • Develop individualized case plans that help residents identify their strengths, address barriers, and build toward economic independence and, where applicable, homeownership.
  • Connect residents to real resources, making meaningful referrals to employment programs, financial literacy services, early childhood education, mental health support, and more.
  • Build and sustain community partnerships with local nonprofits, businesses, faith communities, and service agencies to expand the resources available to residents.
  • Plan and facilitate workshops, trainings, and community events on-site at LRHA properties and throughout the Lynchburg community.
  • Support resident leadership by serving as an advisor and liaison to Resident Councils.
  • Document and track impact through accurate case notes, participation records, and grant reporting, ensuring program accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Promote early childhood development by educating and connecting families with young children to appropriate learning and development resources.
