About The Position

Join Seattle Children’s one-year RN Residency program, designed for registered staff nurses with less than one year of experience. As a Nurse Resident, you will participate in didactic training, leadership development, mentoring, and teamwork to facilitate your transition into practice. Through direct mentorship and shadow experiences, you will engage with a pediatric curriculum and patient care orientation to develop into a pediatric nurse. The program, starting August 3, 2026, aims to build competency in pediatric nursing knowledge and skills, support professional well-being, promote professional development and evidence-based practice, and foster peer collaboration and interdisciplinary teamwork. Program components include a pediatric curriculum, patient care orientation with a preceptor, participation in an evidence-based project, competency evaluation, and ongoing support from nursing leaders and experienced mentors. The position is full-time (0.9 FTE, 36 hours/week) with varying shifts, including night and day/night rotating shifts, with most offers being for night shifts. The RN functions within the Scope of Practice as defined by the State and ANA, adhering to Seattle Children's policies, and is responsible for providing safe, family-centered patient care through assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care collaboratively with the healthcare team. The role may also involve supervision and delegation of tasks to other healthcare personnel.

Requirements

  • Registered staff nurse who has worked less than one year.
  • Current Washington State RN License, or other current state license that the RN is required to work in.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (PEARS and PALS will be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Providers; ACLS will not be accepted).
  • For nurses working in Acute Care Float, Cancer Care Unit, Medical Unit, Psychiatric Unit, Rehabilitation Unit, Surgical Unit: successfully obtain PEARS within 6 months of employment, and subsequently maintain at all times.
  • For new graduate nurses in Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Immersion Program: successfully obtain PALS within 6 months of employment, and subsequently maintain at all times.
  • For nurses working in Acute Care Float, Cancer Care Unit, Hematology/Oncology: successfully obtain a Chemotherapy Biotherapy Provider Card from the Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON) within 6 months of employment, and subsequently maintain at all times.
  • For nurses working in the Psychiatric Unit and Child Psych Consultation: obtain Safety Care Certification (internal training) within 3 months of hire and maintain it.
  • For nurses performing moderately complex point of care testing: a copy of a diploma or transcript of the highest level of academic achievement to be on record with Human Resources upon hire.
  • For personnel trained outside of the U.S.: records of diploma/transcript must provide documented equivalency evaluation by a foreign credentialing agency.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Nice To Haves

  • For ICUs and ED: significant experience in these areas, including paid work experience (CNA, Nurse Tech, etc.), clinical rotations or senior practicum experience.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in didactic training, leadership development, mentoring, and teamwork to support transition into practice.
  • Engage pediatric curriculum and patient care orientation to help develop into a pediatric nurse.
  • Function within the Scope of Practice as defined by the State, the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice.
  • Adhere to Seattle Children's policies/procedures and guidelines of care.
  • Provide safe, family centered patient care.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care in a collaborative method with the patient and patient's family, significant others, and members of the health care team using the Nursing Care Process.
  • May be required to provide supervision and delegation of tasks to Nurse Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants, and others as defined by the State Administrative Code.
  • Assist in meeting Seattle Children's strategic goals by incorporating the initiatives to support the strategic plans into the daily work, i.e. Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), ART, etc.
