About The Position

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center offers a unique opportunity through the Research Nurse Residency Program role within Department of Leukemia and Department of Breast Medical Oncology. This Research Nurse Residency Program position is designed to support new graduate nurses in developing specialized skills in clinical research while contributing to innovative cancer care and clinical trial execution. The Research Nurse Residency Program will participate in structured learning, mentorship, and hands-on clinical experiences throughout the program. This role supports critical clinical trials and patient-centered research initiatives while fostering professional growth through a comprehensive 12-month residency program. The Research Nurse Resident will assist with clinical and operational management of research protocols. Attends residency classes as scheduled to gain knowledge to develop as a research nurse. The ideal candidate will be an upcoming, or recent graduate (within 12 months), from an accredited ADN or BSN program, and be a licensed RN in the state of Texas one week prior to the assigned program start date. The start date will be August 10, 2026. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing
  • An RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN)
  • A BLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire
  • Upcoming, or recent graduate (within 12 months), from an accredited ADN or BSN program
  • Licensed RN in the state of Texas one week prior to the assigned program start date

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor's Degree Nursing
  • Clinical rotation in oncology setting is a plus
  • Current or have completed Professional Student Nurse Extern Program (PSNE) within last 12 months
  • An ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification as required by patient care area Upon Hire
  • A PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification as required by patient care area Upon Hire

Responsibilities

  • Effectively conducts assigned operations of clinical research protocols and supports patient participation throughout the study lifecycle.
  • Coordinate patient participation in clinical trials and monitor ongoing involvement
  • Evaluate patient eligibility and status in accordance with protocol requirements
  • Perform protocol-specific clinical tasks including patient assessment and screening
  • Order and facilitate required diagnostic tests per protocol
  • Collect biological specimens in alignment with study guidelines
  • Monitor patient responses to treatment and document outcomes
  • Administer medications as permitted and required by protocol
  • Assist with documentation of protocol-specific activities in required systems
  • Collect and organize study-related data for analysis and reporting
  • Evaluate collected data for completeness and protocol compliance
  • Educate patients and families about study participation, procedures, and expectations
  • Provide education to professional and ancillary staff regarding research protocols as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of research and departmental operations
