About The Position

Comgent is seeking a Resident Network Engineer to provide technical expertise across network operations, platform testing, and automation. The engineer will act as a primary technical contact, working closely with customer teams on deployments and use cases. The assignment combines service-provider networking support with hands-on routing, switching, and architecture experience. The position is freelance/contract, onsite in Middletown, New Jersey, with a schedule of 40 hours per week and travel of up to 10% to customer sites.

Requirements

• At least 6 years of experience in data-center routing, switching, and network architecture.
• Hands-on experience with Juniper QFX, PTX, and EX platforms.
• JNCIP-level proficiency; certification itself is not mandatory.
• Experience with Junos and Junos EVO feature and hardware certification.
• Python test automation skills.
• Proficiency in routing, switching, and network architecture.
• Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Clear English communication skills and ability to present architecture proposals and negotiate technical options.

Responsibilities

• Advise on network design, Junos configuration, and operational best practices while developing a detailed understanding of the deployed environment.
• Provide primary break/fix support and use advanced diagnostics to restore service and reduce recurring incidents.
• Test hardware and software features, certify Junos and Junos EVO behavior, and develop Python scripts and test automation.
• Review designs and project activities against technical standards, using empirical analysis, modeling, and testing to validate designs and specifications.
• Coordinate with engineering teams and development partners, contribute domain expertise to cross-team projects, and assess new technologies for practical use.
• Document findings and recommendations, present design options to senior stakeholders, and mentor junior colleagues.
• Use appropriate engineering design tools and software to develop solutions and validate product designs and specifications through analysis and testing.
