About The Position

The Resident Instructor position involves actively working with clients, potentially those who may cause harm, requiring the use of approved protective hold techniques. The role focuses on creating a positive learning environment, developing coping strategies for clients facing stressful situations, and facilitating independent performance. A key aspect is demonstrating sensitivity and skills in dealing with clients' reactions to past traumatic events, providing compassion, understanding, limit setting, and a stable living environment. The instructor will implement Treatment Plans or Individual Plans of Care, document client progress, and monitor medical, physical, and behavioral changes. Responsibilities also include administering medication (if certified), following behavioral and dietary plans, maintaining the cleanliness of the home and agency vehicle, and ensuring client privacy. Professional conduct is expected in all interactions, and the role may involve supervising family visitations and conducting community-based outings.

Requirements

  • Valid CT driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Physical Management Training (PMT).
  • First Aid, CPR, and Medication Certification (CPR and FA within 45 days of hire; Medication Administration Certification within 4 months of hire).
  • Ability to attend all required training and in-servicing.
  • Good to excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Thoroughness and effective follow-through on daily work assignments.
  • Display motivation and interest in improving the quality of life for the population served.
  • Demonstrate and maintain an optimistic attitude, patience, and compassion for and with the population served.
  • Demonstrate appropriate boundaries with residents and coworkers, maintaining a professional demeanor.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in the Human Services field.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all job functions required, including lifting and transferring 70-75lbs.
  • Utilize approved protective hold techniques to ensure safety for self, clients, and co-workers, working with youth who may potentially cause harm.
  • Create a positive learning environment and develop strategies to help clients cope effectively with stressful situations.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and skills with clients dealing with reactions to past traumatic and emotional events, providing compassion, understanding, limit setting, and a stable living environment.
  • Implement Treatment Plan (DCF) or Individual Plan of Care (DDS) based on assessments, record data on teaching strategies, behavior systems, and plans, and report client progress, needs, and barriers.
  • Monitor medical, physical, and behavioral changes in clients daily and report any changes to supervisors, Program Manager, Clinician, and/or RN.
  • Administer medication to clients at prescribed times in accordance with policy, document administration, and report errors.
  • Follow written behavioral and dietary plans for each client, assist in meal preparation, and purchasing of supplies.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the home (inside and outside), assist with laundry care, and maintain the cleanliness of the agency vehicle.
  • Maintain client right to privacy and adhere to confidentiality policy.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner when interacting with supervisors, coworkers, consultants, clients, their families, and community members.
  • Supervise family visitation as assigned.
  • Participate in mandatory training, including in-services, staff meetings, and conferences.
  • Take clients to community-based outings and recreational activities using an agency vehicle.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
