About The Position

This role involves creating a nurturing and positive learning environment for clients, helping them cope with social, emotional, and physical situations of daily living, and facilitating their independence. The position requires active work both inside and outside the home, including performing all job functions, lifting and transferring clients (70-75lbs), and utilizing protective hold techniques. The Resident Instructor will implement Individual Plans of Care, document client progress, monitor medical, physical, and behavioral changes, administer medication (once certified), assist with medical appointments, and ensure dietary plans are followed. Responsibilities also include maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the house, properties, and vehicle, conducting oneself professionally, participating in required training, managing petty cash and client funds, ensuring client privacy and confidentiality, and accompanying clients on community outings. The role also involves developing positive neighborhood relationships and adhering to agency policies and procedures.

  • Must possess a valid CT driver’s license and have a good driving record.
  • Must have reliable transportation and may be required to utilize personal vehicle to transport clients.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related Human Services area in addition to experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create a nurturing, positive learning environment and develop strategies to help clients cope effectively with social, emotional and physical situations of daily living and facilitate independent performance in these areas.
  • Perform all job functions required, including lifting and transferring 70-75lbs.
  • Utilize approved protective hold techniques to ensure safety.
  • Implement Individual Plan of Care/Follow-Along Plan, record data on teaching strategies and behavior plans, and report client progress, needs, and barriers.
  • Maintain and document awareness of individual treatment plans, including use of leisure time, community experiences, public transportation, safety skills, personal hygiene, and activities of daily living.
  • Monitor medical, physical, and behavioral changes in individuals daily and report changes to the Supervisor, RN Program Coordinator, or Program Director.
  • Write up incident reports and submit them to the Program Coordinator or Residential Program Manager within 24 hours.
  • Administer medication to clients at prescribed times (once Medication Certified), in accordance with agency policy and DDS regulatory standards.
  • Report all errors of medication administration or documentation immediately to the RN, Program Manager, and Program Coordinator.
  • Monitor and assist in making medical and other related appointments.
  • Assist and monitor follow-through on all doctors’ orders and recommendations per RN direction after medical appointments.
  • Participate in the planning, purchasing, and preparation of meals within available budgetary resources.
  • Ensure clients’ dietary plans are followed.
  • Maintain the appearance, cleanliness, and upkeep of the house, properties, and vehicle, ensuring they are clean and safe.
  • Report all repair needs to the Program Manager and/or Program Coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Conduct self in a professional manner when interacting with participants, supervisors, co-workers, families, medical professionals, and members of the community.
  • Participate in training opportunities (in-service training, staff meetings, conferences, etc.) as required.
  • Maintain all required training per agency policy and DDS regulatory requirement.
  • Provide accurate accounting of agency’s petty cash and client funds in an informative, auditable condition at all times.
  • Assure individuals’ right to privacy and adhere to CRI’s confidentiality policy.
  • Take individuals to a variety of community-based outings ensuring that all health and safety measures in the Individuals support plan are followed.
  • Utilize the agency vehicle following state laws and safety procedures.
  • Familiarize oneself with CRI policies and procedures, ensuring compliance.
  • Assist in developing a positive neighborhood/community relationship.
