About The Position

The Resident Instructor role is an active position performed both inside and outside the home, requiring the ability to lift and transfer 70-75lbs. This role involves working with youth who may potentially cause harm, necessitating the use of approved protective hold techniques to ensure the safety of staff and clients. The instructor is responsible for creating a positive learning environment, developing coping strategies for clients facing stressful situations, and facilitating independent performance and mastery. A key aspect of the role is demonstrating sensitivity and skills in dealing with clients' reactions to past traumatic and emotional events, providing compassion, understanding, limit setting, and a stable living environment to assist in the therapeutic process. The instructor will implement Treatment Plans or Individual Plans of Care, record data on teaching strategies and behavior systems, report client progress and barriers, and maintain awareness of current plans. Daily monitoring of clients' medical, physical, and behavioral changes is required, with prompt reporting to supervisors and relevant parties, and clear documentation in client files. Qualified individuals may administer medication in accordance with policy, documenting administration and reporting errors. The role also includes following behavioral and dietary plans, assisting with meal preparation and supply purchasing, maintaining the cleanliness of the home and agency vehicle, and adhering to client privacy and confidentiality policies. Professional conduct is expected in all interactions, and supervision of family visitations may be assigned. Participation in mandatory training, including in-services and staff meetings, is required. The instructor will also take clients on community-based outings and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Valid CT driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Physical Management Training (PMT).
  • First Aid, CPR, and Medication Certification (CPR and FA within 45 days of hire; Medication Administration Certification within 4 months of hire).
  • Ability to attend all required training and in-servicing.
  • Good to excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Thoroughness and effective follow-through on daily work assignments.
  • Motivation and interest in improving the quality of life for the population served.
  • Optimistic attitude, patience, and compassion for and with the population served.
  • Appropriate boundaries with residents and coworkers, maintaining a professional demeanor.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in the Human Services field.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the cleanliness of the home (inside and outside), assist with laundry, and maintain the agency vehicle.
  • Maintain client right to privacy and adhere to confidentiality policy.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner when interacting with supervisors, coworkers, clients, and their families.
  • Supervise family visitation as assigned.
  • Participate in mandatory training, including in-services, staff meetings, and conferences.
  • Take clients to community-based outings and recreational activities.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
