About The Position

The Resident Instructor position involves performing all essential job functions, including lifting and transferring clients up to 70-75lbs. The role requires active work both inside and outside the home, utilizing approved protective hold techniques to ensure safety for staff, clients, and co-workers, especially when working with youth who may pose a risk of harm. The instructor is responsible for creating a positive learning environment, developing coping strategies for clients facing stressful situations, and facilitating independent performance and mastery. This includes demonstrating sensitivity and skills in dealing with clients' reactions to past traumatic events, providing compassion, understanding, limit setting, and a stable living environment. The role requires implementing Treatment Plans or Individual Plans of Care, recording data on teaching strategies and behavior systems, reporting client progress and barriers, and maintaining awareness of current plans. Daily monitoring of clients' medical, physical, and behavioral changes is necessary, with prompt reporting to supervisors and relevant parties, and clear documentation in client files. Qualified individuals may administer medication according to policy, documenting administration and reporting errors. The instructor must follow behavioral and dietary plans, assist with meal preparation and supply purchasing, and maintain the cleanliness of the home, laundry, and agency vehicle, reporting any maintenance needs. Adherence to client privacy and confidentiality policies is mandatory. Professional conduct is expected in all interactions. The role includes supervising family visitations, participating in mandatory training, conducting community-based outings, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

Valid CT driver's license and a good driving record.
Physical Management Training (PMT).
First Aid, CPR, and Medication Certification (CPR and FA within 45 days of hire; Medication Administration Certification within 4 months of hire).
Ability to attend all required training and in-servicing.
Good to excellent oral and written communication skills.
Thoroughness and effective follow-through on daily work assignments.
Motivation and interest in improving the quality of life for the population served.
Optimistic attitude, patience, and compassion for and with the population served.
Ability to demonstrate and maintain appropriate boundaries with residents and coworkers.
Maintain a professional demeanor while in the workplace.

Nice To Haves

Associate's Degree preferred.
At least one year of experience in the Human Services field.

Responsibilities

Implement Treatment Plan (DCF) or Individual Plan of Care (DDS) based on assessments, record data, report progress and barriers, and maintain awareness of current plans.
Monitor medical, physical, and behavioral changes in clients daily and report to appropriate personnel.
Administer medication to clients as prescribed, if medically certified, and document according to policy.
Follow written behavioral and dietary plans, assist with meal preparation and supply purchasing.
Maintain the cleanliness of the home (inside and outside), assist with laundry, and maintain the cleanliness of the agency vehicle.
Maintain client right to privacy and adhere to confidentiality policy.
Conduct oneself in a professional manner when interacting with supervisors, coworkers, clients, families, and the community.
Supervise family visitation as assigned.
Participate in mandatory training, in-services, staff meetings, and conferences.
Take clients to community-based outings and recreational activities using an agency vehicle.
Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
