The Post-Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice Residency program is a 12-month postgraduate training program which builds on the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. The resident actively participates in a multidisciplinary care environment. Completes the learning experience through four-to-five-week rotations in differing clinical specialty areas as well as longitudinal learning opportunities in ambulatory care, drug information, and administration. In general, the resident will be expected to learn from their preceptors and apply the lessons learned to direct patient care activities. A major and minor project will be assigned and completed that will improve the overall status of pharmaceutical care of our patients at Denver Health. Residents are taught and evaluated by the educational goals and objectives set forth by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacist's (ASHP) Accreditation Board.
