The Resident Field Technician manages a customer base and assigned territory, scheduling all customer work, generating new business, and maintaining customer relations. This role involves conducting machine performance and diagnostic tests, interpreting results, and making independent decisions regarding machine repair. The technician provides services as needed, using troubleshooting methods to repair and diagnose machine and attachment failures according to time requirement guidelines (TRG) standards. They adapt knowledge of Caterpillar machine systems to troubleshoot and repair new equipment models. Work is performed in the field or at customer locations, which may include overtime and overnight assignments. The technician is responsible for repairing machines without error, consistently meeting time requirement guidelines, and efficiently handling warranty and service letter issues. They utilize web-based STW, SIS, and ET effectively, perform tasks according to outlined procedures, and conduct business professionally, maintaining self-control and integrity in stressful situations. Adherence to customer requirements, ordering necessary parts, evaluating parts for reusability and failure cause, and completing service reports, time entry, and other paperwork daily via email are key aspects of the role. Communication with customers regarding machine issues, problem resolution plans, and repair status is essential. The technician must adhere to all customer care standards and actively promote safety at Western States, following all applicable safety policies, procedures, and standards. They may also participate in training and support Western States’ strategic programs, projects, and initiatives, working within and promoting the organization's vision, mission, and values. Other duties as assigned.
