Join our Water US Construction Management Division as our new Electrical Resident Engineer and work with us to close the gap to a sustainable future. As our new Electrical Resident Engineer, you will engage in various levels of complexity construction-related projects which will require the application of standard construction techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related construction/engineering tasks. You must be capable of collaborating and making evaluations and interpretations, exercising independent judgment selecting and applying standard engineering/construction techniques, procedures, and criteria to make design adaptations and modifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (BEng/BSc) or related disciplines.
  • Associate’s degree or technical school certification in electrical or other relevant technical curriculum, and 4+ years of qualifying engineering experience working in the engineering/design field.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills; build and maintain collaborative relationships with all stakeholders (client, contractor, and design disciplines)
  • General understanding of electrical regulations, standards, and codes.
  • General understanding of electrical systems including generators, power supply/distribution, UPS, MCC, VFD, OIT/HMI, SCADA, PLC, RTU, DCS, LPS, SPD, grounding, instrumentation, communications, and security.
  • Valid driver’s license and availability for up to 100% travel (mostly day trips to sites).
  • Electrical field education and aptitude.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced postgraduate degree.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (preferred).
  • Municipal and State Agency experience.
  • CCM, USACE CQM, CCCA, NICET certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizing knowledge acquired through engineering or construction management degree to analyze the engineering concepts of a project. Ensuring that the technical components meet the engineering requirements of the contract documents.
  • Overseeing construction personnel to ensure construction procedures, methods and materials follow those specified in the contract documents. Directing Construction Superintendents, Project Managers, Foreman, etc. to comply with contract documents and report non-conformances throughout the duration of a project.
  • Reviewing design criteria, specifications, drawings, submittals, RFI responses, change management, and other pertinent documentation. Assisting in coordination and constructability review of design phase submittals.
  • Performing engineering calculations throughout the duration of the project to determine such requirements as pump performance, concrete mechanics, pipeline hydraulics, and electrical adequacy.
  • Assisting Design Engineer in developing conceptual change management modifications and scope.
  • Preparing cash flow calculations from a critical path schedule and schedule of values for the project owner to budget total project cost. Observing and monitoring contractor progress and scheduled completion through daily reporting and digital photo documentation. Reviewing contractor payment request estimates for accuracy.
  • Assisting in commissioning activities for equipment and electrical systems. Overseeing site specific commissioning plans and developing/maintaining logs and checklists. Witnessing and documenting performance and startup testing.
