About The Position

The Resident Director (RD) position is a full-time role focused on the supervision and development of Resident Assistants (RAs), fostering community development, providing student accountability and crisis response, planning and evaluating programming, maintaining a safe living environment, and engaging in collateral roles within the university. The RD is expected to be a visible and accessible resource for students and staff, promoting the university's mission and supporting student well-being and success. This role involves significant interaction with students, staff, and various university departments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Current valid driver's license required.
  • Must be able to support and promote the University's Mission.
  • Excellent administrative, oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent human relation, mediation, and training skills.
  • Ability to handle confrontational individuals or environments.
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours are to be expected.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in student personnel, higher education, counseling, or a related area is preferred.
  • Preferred experience in staff supervision.
  • Preferred experience in administration of residence hall operations.
  • Preferred experience in facilitating student development programming activities.
  • Previous experience with living and learning communities is preferred.
  • Previous experience with first-year experience programs is preferred.
  • Previous experience with international and diverse populations is preferred.
  • Experience with Maxient, Microsoft Office, StarRez, Colleague, FMX is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, select, and supervise Resident Assistant staff, overseeing their duties including resident engagement, on-call coverage, programming, and student accountability.
  • Conduct regular one-to-one and team meetings with RAs, focusing on continued development aligned with University priorities.
  • Guide RAs in creating programs and one-to-one interactions that foster student transformation.
  • Establish and uphold clear guidelines for student staff responsibilities, including one-to-one resident interactions, community development, policy enforcement, and performance management.
  • Set clear expectations for student staff regarding personal behavior and confidentiality of student information.
  • Assist in developing department policies and procedures and coordinating operations.
  • Foster relationships with students and staff by maintaining an accessible and welcoming office and community environment.
  • Promote the goals and objectives of the residential community in conjunction with University initiatives.
  • Demonstrate respect for individual students and assist them in their collegiate journey by connecting them to resources.
  • Contribute to effective team management of relevant issues and opportunities.
  • Actively use provided meal plan to build and foster relationships with staff and students.
  • Share weekday/night, weekend, and holiday on-call responsibilities with other professional staff members.
  • Communicate and model University expectations for community member behavior.
  • Establish clear guidelines and expectations for policy enforcement and associated documentation.
  • Conduct disciplinary meetings, including case creation, accountability meetings, sanctioning, and follow-up.
  • Coach student staff in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs aligned with learning objectives.
  • Administer the programming budget for the designated area with fiscal responsibility.
  • Create and provide programming or small group engagement opportunities.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of the physical condition of buildings in the designated area and assist with identification of improvement projects.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with Maintenance and Custodial teams.
  • Coordinate on-site supervision for area fire drills and health and safety inspections.
  • Supervise the dissemination, completion, retrieval, and submission of Room Condition Forms and other paperwork.
  • Supervise and manage area move-in, closing, damage billing, and damage billing appeals.
  • Identify and participate in collateral assignments aligned with personal and professional interests and departmental needs.
  • Develop and foster relationships with campus partners to collaborate with other departments.
  • Participate in committees and campus partnerships for professional development and involvement.
  • Engage in professional student affairs regional and/or national associations.
