About The Position

The Resident Care Director is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the Nursing Department. This role involves developing high-performance teams focused on exceptional customer service, care delivery, and teamwork. The position ensures proper staffing levels, regulatory compliance, adherence to Viva's Standards, and continuous improvement to achieve the company's mission and vision. The Resident Care Director must also comply with business conduct standards, federal, state, and local health and regulatory standards, and maintain the utmost compassion and dignity for residents, adhering to the Resident Bill of Rights. The role may require on-call availability during exigent circumstances and adherence to Viva Senior Living's attendance policies and the Employee Handbook. A strong command of English for communication and the ability to maintain the highest standards in caring for residents and their families are essential.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid RN/LPN license issued by the State.
  • Must possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma or a GED.
  • Must be able to work well with peers in a congenial work environment.
  • Must maintain the utmost compassion and dignity to the residents and adhere to the Resident Bill of Rights.
  • Must adhere to Viva Senior Living’s attendance policies and follow the terms and conditions of employment as set forth in the Employee Handbook.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Must maintain the highest standards in caring and servicing the needs of the residents and residents' family members and loves ones.
  • Must adhere to all facility policies and procedures.
  • Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, agitated residents.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Overall leadership and management of the Nursing Department.
  • Professional development of the Assistant Resident Care Director and clinical staff.
  • Ensuring proper staffing levels, regulatory compliance, and Viva’s Standard compliance.
  • Creating and maintaining monthly department schedules.
  • Providing leadership development to Assistant Resident Care Director and clinical staff.
  • Ensuring departmental quality assurance with applicable regulations, Viva’s standards, and business performance.
  • Overseeing the department budget.
  • Ordering supplies for the Nursing Department.
  • Collaborating with the Business Office Manager on the interview process for prospective employees.
  • Meeting with new nursing team members to review training and onboarding.
  • Scheduling training for new employees.
  • Regularly checking in with new hires to ensure a satisfactory orientation process.
  • Ensuring Relias requirements and job-specific orientation checklists are completed with the Business Office Manager.
  • Maintaining the on-call schedule and rotation.
  • Overseeing the management of staff attendance and performance.
  • Overseeing the Wellness Coach and resident schedules.
  • Maintaining meeting schedules: Primary meetings include Stand up, resident rounds, transition/therapy, staffing, and QA (if state required). Oversight meetings include Shift report and Huddle.
  • Conducting quarterly Clinical Section of the Ops Audit for QA, reviewing and implementing action plans/interventions, and discussing with the Executive Director.
  • Reviewing internal incident reports and post-falls to prepare regulatory incident reports for ED approval and submission to state or governing bodies.
  • Preparing new admission charts and readmission packets.
  • Maintaining medical records, including dismantling discharged resident charts in conjunction with the Business Office Manager.
  • Providing oversight and guidance for chart audits.
  • Filing overflow medical records in active or discharged resident’s records.
  • Following up on internal investigations of theft, abuse, medication errors, falls, etc., and collaborating with the Executive Director on next steps and interventions.
  • Maintaining incidental billing of services to residents.
  • Reviewing monthly rent rolls to ensure proper billing of resident care and budgetary income.
  • Scheduling monthly department meetings with agendas and trainings.
  • Handling medical pieces for LTC Insurance Paperwork.
  • Overseeing high-risk residents with potential for move-out due to customer service or care concerns.
  • Assisting with nursing care on the floor as needed.
  • Upholding Viva's care models and philosophy (e.g., Live More, Care Connect, Mosher Gardens Method, Think More, No Fall Zone).
  • Mentoring, disciplining, hiring, and terminating Wellness Staff.
  • Sharing On-Call phone every other week with the Case Manager.
  • Participating in the Manager on Duty rotation with the Leadership Team.
  • Being prepared to count in minimum staffing levels or work a shift in the absence of Wellness staff.
  • Maintaining an adequate staffing schedule and entering it into the payroll database in conjunction with the Case Manager.
  • Acting as Manager on Duty via rotation with other managers.
  • Participating in RCA/Med Tech hiring process, disciplinary actions, terminations, supervision, and training of Wellness staff.
  • Overseeing the Case Manager.
  • Performing other duties as required per state regulations.
  • Adhering to scheduled shifts assigned by the Executive Director or Supervisor.
  • Providing annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
