About The Position

The Resident Care Director is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the Nursing Department. This role requires ensuring proper staffing levels, regulatory compliance, Viva’s Standard compliance, and ongoing improvement to execute the company mission and vision. The position involves creating and maintaining monthly department schedules, providing leadership development to the Assistant Resident Care Director and clinical staff, and overseeing departmental quality assurance with applicable regulations, Viva’s standards, and business performance. The Resident Care Director also oversees the budget, orders supplies for the Nursing Department, and collaborates with the Business Office Manager on the interview process for prospective employees, including reviewing training and onboarding schedules, scheduling training, and checking in with new hires. They are responsible for maintaining the on-call schedule and rotation, overseeing staff attendance and performance management, and managing the Wellness Coach and resident schedules. This role includes maintaining various meeting schedules, conducting quarterly Clinical Section of the Ops Audit for QA, reviewing internal incident reports and post-falls to prepare regulatory incident reports, preparing new admission charts and readmission packets, and maintaining medical records. The Resident Care Director follows up on internal investigations of theft, abuse, medication errors, falls, and collaborates with the Executive Director on next steps. They maintain incidental billing of services to residents, review monthly rent rolls for proper billing of resident care, and schedule monthly department meetings with agendas and trainings. The position also involves handling medical pieces for LTC Insurance Paperwork, overseeing high-risk residents, assisting with nursing care on the floor as needed, and upholding Viva’s care models and philosophy. Additionally, the Resident Care Director mentors, disciplines, hires, and terminates Wellness Staff, shares the On-Call phone and Manager on Duty rotation, and is prepared to count in minimum staffing levels or work a shift in the absence of Wellness staff. They maintain an adequate staffing schedule in conjunction with the Case Manager and perform other duties as required per state regulations, adhering to scheduled shifts assigned by the Executive Director or Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid RN/LPN license issued by the State.
  • Must possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma or a GED.

  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, agitated residents.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Regularly checking in with new hires to ensure the orientation process is satisfactory.
  • Ensuring Relias requirements and job-specific orientation checklists are completed with the Business Office Manager.
  • Maintaining on-call schedule and rotation.
  • Overseeing the management of staff attendance and performance management.
  • Overseeing the Wellness Coach and schedule of residents.
  • Maintaining meeting schedules (Primary: Stand up, resident rounds, transition/therapy, staffing, QA; Oversight: Shift report, Huddle).
  • Conducting quarterly Clinical Section of the Ops Audit for QA and reviewing to implement action plans/interventions.
  • Reviewing internal incident reports and post falls to prepare regulatory incident reports for ED approval and submission.
  • Preparing new admission charts and readmission packets.
  • Maintaining medical records, including dismantling discharged resident charts, in conjunction with the Business Office Manager.
  • Providing oversight and guidance for chart audits.
  • Filing overflow medical records in active or discharged resident’s records.
  • Following up on internal investigations of theft, abuse, medication errors, falls, etc., and collaborating with the Executive Director on next steps and interventions.
  • Maintaining incidental billing of services to residents.
  • Reviewing monthly rent rolls to assure proper billing of resident care and budgetary income for the community.
  • Scheduling monthly department meetings with well-planned agendas and trainings for departmental needs.
  • Handling any medical pieces for LTC Insurance Paperwork.
  • Overseeing High-Risk residents with potential for move-out due to customer service or care concerns.
  • Assisting with nursing care on the floor, as needed.
  • Upholding the foundation of care models and philosophy of Viva.
  • Mentoring, disciplining, hiring, and terminating Wellness Staff.
  • Sharing On-Call phone every other week with Case Manager.
  • Sharing Manager on Duty rotation with the Leadership Team.
  • Being prepared to count in minimum staffing levels/work the shift in the absence of Wellness staff.
  • Maintaining an adequate staffing schedule and entering it into the payroll database in conjunction with the Case Manager.
  • Acting as Manager on Duty via rotation with other managers.
  • Participating in RCA/Med Tech hiring process, disciplinary actions, terminations, supervision, and training of Wellness staff.
  • Overseeing the Case Manager.
  • Performing other duties as required per state regulations.
  • Adhering to scheduled shifts assigned by the Executive Director or Supervisor.
