About The Position

The Resident Assistant (RA) serves as live-in members of the residential life team for the Florida Musical Theatre Intensive while students are housed on the Rollins College campus. Reporting to the Dorm Supervisor, Resident Assistants support student safety, wellbeing, and engagement during non-classroom hours, while serving as mentors and role models within a positive, inclusive, and structured residential community. Resident Assistants are responsible for supervising students, enforcing housing policies, assisting with behavior management, and supporting emergency response protocols under the direction of the Dorm Supervisor. They also contribute to the implementation of evening residential programming, including facilitating dorm-based activities and fostering community among participants. The Florida Musical Theatre Intensive is a two-week program running from June 14 through June 28, 2026, serving approximately 60 high school students ages 14–19. The program takes place at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, with student and residential life team housing provided at Rollins College during the residential portion of the program. This temporary position runs from June 1 through July 2, 2026, and is part of the residential life team reporting to the Dorm Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Applicants must be at least 20 years of age by the start of employment due to the supervisory and residential responsibilities of the role.
  • 1-2 years of experience supervising youth (camp counselor, resident assistant, or similar role) required.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work long hours and maintain professionalism in a residential environment.
  • Will be required to complete CPR/AED/First Aid training within the first 60 days or present an unexpired certificate of training.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in performing arts or education is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide student supervision on a rotating schedule, as coordinated by the Dorm Supervisor.
  • Conduct nightly room checks and enforce curfew and housing policies.
  • Remain available and approachable for student questions, concerns, or support needs.
  • Support students experiencing homesickness, roommate conflicts, or general adjustment challenges.
  • Escort and supervise students during transitions to meals, evening activities, masterclasses, or other program events as needed.
  • Plan, lead, and participate in dorm-based social and recreational activities (games, ice cream nights, talent shows, movie nights, etc.).
  • Encourage positive interactions, inclusion, and mutual respect among students.
  • Serve as a consistent positive role model in behavior, communication, and professionalism.
  • Uphold and enforce all program rules, curfews, and conduct standards.
  • Monitor dorm entrances and common areas to ensure safety and that only authorized individuals enter housing spaces.
  • Report and document any incidents, safety concerns, or policy violations to the Dorm Supervisor promptly.
  • Attend daily staff meetings and check-ins with the Dorm Supervisor.
  • Communicate student updates, concerns, or incidents clearly and in a timely manner.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow RAs to ensure consistent supervision and support.
  • Take attendance during curfew and designated check-ins.
  • Assist with key distribution, lost items, and housing logistics.
  • Support health, wellness, and medical protocols under the direction of the Dorm Supervisor.
  • Follow established emergency procedures for fire alarms, severe weather, or medical incidents.
  • Be familiar with emergency contacts, first aid locations, campus security procedures, and on-call staff protocols.
  • Follow and support all operational policies and procedures.
  • Assimilate into the arts center culture through understanding, supporting and demonstrating the core values.
  • Maintain a professional and friendly relationship with other departments, colleagues, and partners.
  • Able to remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Maintain Dr. Phillips Center standards of customer service at all times.
  • Able to effectively communicate in English in both written and oral forms.
  • Other duties as assigned.
