About The Position

Gasparilla Island Administration is looking for a self-motivated park service professional to fill an Assistant Park Manager position; providing visitor services, maintenance, protection, administration, and resource management. This position requires a high energy, dedicated, innovative person who is committed to protecting and interpreting Florida’s natural and cultural resources. The incumbent must have experience in the management of personnel and knowledge of agency policies. The incumbent will work with the Park Manager to supervise park operations at four locations (Gasparilla Island, Cayo Costa, Stump Pass Beach and Don Pedro. and ensure agency standards are met. Residency is required in a 2-bedroom/ 1-bathroom house provided by the state located on Cayo Costa. The applicant must be able to operate motorized boats in all weather conditions.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to handle motorized watercraft up to 32 feet
  • Knowledge of Florida Park Service management, operations, and mission
  • Knowledge of building maintenance and construction techniques
  • Knowledge of cultural and natural resource management techniques
  • Knowledge of general maintenance of facilities and equipment
  • Skill in personnel management and leadership
  • Skill in determining work priorities, assigning work, and ensuring proper completion of assignments
  • Skill in use of computers and related software
  • Skill in use of a variety of hand tools, small engines, power tools, and large equipment
  • Ability to participate in all aspects of resource management, including prescribed fire
  • Ability to supervise people
  • Ability to provide effective leadership
  • Ability to provide training for career service, volunteer, OPS and AmeriCorps staff
  • Ability to provide visitor assistance services
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

  • Ability to work rotating shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Responsibilities

  • Participates in employee training, supervision, discipline and maintains good employee relations.
  • Supervises the staff in fiscal and purchasing procedures and policies.
  • Ensures property procedures and policies are applied.
  • Coordinates work schedules and assignments.
  • Checks reports, fee collection and miscellaneous records prepared by the staff.
  • Coordinates interpretive programs, activities, events and schedules for park unit.
  • Meets the public, interprets the resources, facilities and services, resolves problems and provides good public relations.
  • Supervises the staff in providing visitor services.
  • Participates in the supervision of resource management programs applicable to park unit including ecological burning, water level management, native species propagation, erosion control and exotic removal.
  • Identifies maintenance needs through daily inspections.
  • Maintains maintenance schedules and supervises the staff to ensure maintenance on a daily, weekly and yearly basis is regularly performed.
  • Supervises and assists with the maintenance of buildings, roads, bridges, trails, water systems, wastewater systems, vehicles, equipment, etc.
  • Ensures Park rules are enforced pertaining to all natural, historical and archaeological facilities and resources and use thereof, for the enjoyment of the visitor.
  • Promotes safety throughout the park, ensures equipment and facilities are safe and provides guidance to staff on safety practices.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
