About The Position

The University of Virginia's Housing & Residence Life (HRL) is seeking a Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) for a student-facing role within Residence Life. This position will help meet current challenges, achieve strategic initiatives, and contribute to the University's 2030 plan. The RLC will lead, guide, and coach Senior Residents (SRs) who will support Resident Advisors (RAs). The RLC position is directly supervised by an assistant dean. HRL's mission is to create inclusive, welcoming communities where residents are empowered to engage their potential as scholars and leaders. Core values include collaboration, resilience, operational effectiveness, empowerment, personal accountability, and diversity, equity, & inclusion. HRL manages close to three million square feet of residential space, offering various living and learning programs and diverse residential environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of experience required.
  • Demonstrated leadership and effectiveness in promoting respect, and appreciation for diversity and pluralism among students and staff.
  • Selected applicants will pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or equivalent in Counseling, Higher Education, Student Affairs Administration, or other related field is preferred.
  • Relevant student experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Support community building in residential areas.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of programs that enhance the first and second-year experience.
  • Mentor, train, and/or supervise student staff and student leaders.
  • Help students solve problems and respond appropriately to challenges and/or crises.
  • Incident response and crisis management.
