About The Position

The Residence Life Office at Behrend campus is looking for a dynamic and energetic individual to join the team. The Residence Life Office is committed to the development of a safe and inclusive living-learning community that fosters academic, social, cultural, and personal growth. We strive to enable residents to develop respect and responsibility for themselves and their community. The Live-On Coordinator is a vital part of the team in helping to continue the vision and mission of the department. They are responsible to an Associate Director for supervising a staff of up to 16 Resident Assistants, as well as overseeing the daily activities of buildings housing up to 500 students. This position would work in various residence hall settings and/or in an apartment setting with undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (if filled as Residential Education Specialist - Professional)
  • Master's Degree (if filled as Residential Education Specialist - Intermediate Professional)
  • No prior relevant work experience required (for either level)
  • PA State Police Criminal Background Check
  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form
  • Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Successful completion of a motor vehicle records check
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises Resident Assistants
  • Conducts regular individual and group supervision meetings
  • Evaluates Resident Assistant performance
  • Provides support and training for Resident Assistants
  • Assists with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a residence education program
  • Assists with the development and implementation of campus-wide initiatives
  • Makes referrals to University when appropriate
  • Encourages student involvement in residential and University engagement opportunities
  • Advocates for students through communication of their concerns and experiences
  • Provide resources to students to support their academic, career, and personal development
  • Facilitates student accountability cases using the process outlined in the Student Code of Conduct
  • Mediates conflicts between and among students
  • Engages with students in crisis and provides connections to campus partners for continued support
  • Assists with the daily operation and organization of the unit and office
  • Manages a variety of administrative functions to include tracking and management of building events, incident reporting and documentation, and student support and communication
  • Assists in promoting the safety and security
  • Assists in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with Housing and Food Services, Safety and Security, New Student Programs, etc
  • Provides on-call coverage over breaks on a rotating basis after typical working hours, weekends, including Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break and during Summer session
  • Demonstrates a commitment to students and the quality of their life in the residence hall environment
  • Encourages Resident Assistants to become well-acquainted with students
  • Plans and implements programs in conjunction with Resident Assistants and students
  • Demonstrates a commitment to staff and student retention and recruitment efforts
  • Participates in committees and/or impact and project teams
  • Assists in the recruitment and training of professional staff
  • Assists in the development and implementation of goals and the residence hall system
  • Performs other duties as assigned
