This is a full-time temporary two-year appointment with the possibility to extend up to four years. It includes benefits and residential on-campus housing. The Residence Life and Housing team is committed to developing a caring, vibrant, student-centered residential experience to promote personal growth, foster meaningful relationships, support student success, and uphold standards that enhance the living experience. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Residence Education, the Residence Hall Coordinator (RHC) promotes learning and development for as many as 5,400 students living in on-campus residence halls and apartments; maintains the daily operation for one residence facility; and supervises undergraduate student staff. The (RHC) is responsible for student and community development and engagement of a residence hall or apartment complex through programming, staff development, crisis management, leadership, education, and engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Two years of experience in Residence Life and Housing, higher education, or a related field working with college students
  • Availability to work frequent evening and weekend shifts
  • Availability to participate in an after-hours response rotation
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills
  • A genuine commitment to student success
  • Experience in residence life
  • Knowledge of federal mandates including ADA, FERPA, TIX, and VAWA
  • Experience working with a diverse college student population
  • Valid driver's license

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field
  • Experience in residence life or residential education in a higher education setting
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience using housing management software such as Maxient or StarRez

Responsibilities

  • Partner with department staff, University Student Housing staff, and key stakeholders to maintain healthy and safe communities
  • Supervise and cultivate a team of Resident Assistants (RA) with individual and team meetings, paraprofessional development, and periodic appraisals
  • Collaborate with Graduate Hall Coordinator (GHC) to advance engagement community development, and student support within assigned area
  • Supervise GHC within assigned area as needed
  • Develop and deliver the residential curriculum for an assigned area
  • Manage and report student issues and concerns
  • Oversee and foster living-learning and themed communities
  • Serve as a member of the Residence Life & Housing Community Standards team including oversight of hearing violations of the Student Code of Conduct, Occupancy Agreement, and Community Living Standards
  • Ensure building and resident safety by reporting and tracking maintenance issues with campus partners
  • Manage all openings and closings of assigned area
  • Maintain high visibility and availability including attending community events, regularly touring assigned buildings, and interacting with students
  • Serve as a role model for all hall staff and residents in personal and professional behaviors
  • Develop inclusive communities to ensure student success and belonging through a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Advise Community Council to enhance student engagement and improve the community experience
  • Support departmental initiatives including RA training, staff selection, recognition, and curriculum development
  • Participate in division-wide committees, departmental leadership opportunities, programs, and events
  • Serve in an on-call rotation providing crisis intervention and response and act as onsite liaison for university partners in emergency situations
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
