About The Position

The Residence Director is a live-in professional responsible for the comprehensive management of a residential community, integrating student development, operational oversight, and facilities coordination. This position ensures a high-quality residential experience by balancing strong residence life programming with efficient housing operations and proactive facilities management. The Residence Director supervises student staff, supports student success and well-being, and serves as a key liaison between residents, housing leadership, and facilities teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in on-campus student housing or property management
  • Must have comfort and confidence in managing confidential crisis issue
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Must possess effective skills in customer service, group facilitation, leadership, and organization.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal, communication (oral and written) skills, computer competency (Word, Excel, content management systems, etc.)
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Ability to live on site and serve after hours on-call response.
  • Ability to move and lift up to 35 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and assess a comprehensive residence life program that fosters student engagement, belonging, and academic success.
  • Supervise and train student staff (e.g. Resident Assistants, Desk Assistants), including recruitment, selection, training, and performance management.
  • Provide leadership in student conduct processes, conflict mediation, and behavioral interventions.
  • Respond to student concerns, crises, and emergencies with professionalism and care.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the residential community.
  • Maintain a visible and engaged presence within the community.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between residents and facilities/maintenance teams.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections to ensure cleanliness, safety, and functionality of residential spaces.
  • Report, track, and follow up on maintenance requests to ensure timely resolution.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating preventative maintenance and capital improvement projects.
  • Educate residents on proper facility use and community standards.
  • Monitor vendor access and work completion within the residential community.
  • Participate in an on-call duty rotation and respond to emergencies, including facilities-related issues (e.g. floods, power outages, fire alarms), which may require responses on nights, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Implement and support emergency preparedness protocols and safety initiatives.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of incidents and follow-up actions.
  • Collaborate with campus safety and leadership during critical incidents.
  • Manage community budgets related to programming.
  • Maintain accurate reports on incidents, program outcomes, and occupancy, including weekly leasing reports.
  • Support departmental assessment efforts and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with training and development of student staff.
  • Coordinate the input and payment of accounts payable tasks.
  • Receive and distribute Interoffice and US mail and packages.
  • General filing and office duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.
