About The Position

The Reserving Manager leads the development of financial projections and analysis to arrive at meaningful information with regards to risk-influenced property and casualty insurance financial statement items. The position provides realistic and innovative solutions to financial and other problems to assist management in the decision making process.

Requirements

College Degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics or similar degree required.
Five (5) to seven (7) or more years of actuarial experience work preferred in Property & Casualty field; with a minimum of three (3) years required.
Ability to analyze data and develop strategic recommendations.
Strong organizational skills, including time management.
Proven knowledge of insurance concepts.
Knowledge of mathematical concepts and relational databases.
Exceptional Excel skills required.
Excellent documentation, presentation, interpersonal, organization and leadership skills; practiced research skills.
Skilled in writing reports, business correspondence, work orders and procedure manuals.
Capability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
Ability to apply concepts to practical situations
Skill to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical data
Demonstrated ability to learn additional software applications as required.
Ability to present ideas and information in a clear, concise, organized and diplomatic manner; gather information from multiple parties to ensure all perspectives are heard and considered; listen to others to respond effectively to ideas, thoughts and questions; express information and ideas effectively in settings including aligned or un-aligned feedback to obtain desired results.
Flexibility in shifting focus or course of action.

Nice To Haves

Experience leading a small team of analyst preferred.
Tableau, COGNOS, SQL and Access are preferred.

Responsibilities

Develop reserving models, financial projections, contract modeling, and ad hoc analysis in support of overall actuarial goals and objectives.
Apply knowledge of mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business to calculations.
Develop assumptions and methodologies to project costs in the contract year.
Collaborate with internal departments to determine and obtain relevant data points.
Review and validate data completeness and accuracy.
Perform financial forecasts of P&C insurance costs.
Support the Company’s IBNR reserving activities by performing independent actuarial reviews.
Understand and apply actuarial valuation and accounting principles.
Identify risks and opportunities in the reserving position and monitors the reserve patterns over time.
Review work prepared by analysts and external consultants to ensure accuracy and consistency of data.
Support financial forecasting by customizing actuarial models to suit business needs.
Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Assist with special projects, as needed.
Analyze pricing and underwriting variables for adequacy, correlation, and loss propensity, and make recommendations accordingly.
Review and recommend procedure changes; develop documentation and implementation processes for changes as needed.
