Gen Re currently offers an excellent opportunity for a Reserving Actuary to work in our Stamford office. This is a hybrid role with 3 days in the office each week.

Requirements

  • University degree is required.
  • Two to five years actuarial P&C experience in insurance or reinsurance.
  • 3+ actuarial exams passed; actively taking exams.
  • Strong Excel skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer a major course of study in actuarial science, statistics or mathematics.
  • Reserving experience is a plus.
  • experience with Access, Power BI, SQL, VBA, R/Python, or other analytical tools highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an understanding of the IBNR calculation systems, reserving methods, data sources, and reporting processes used within the department.
  • Perform reserving analyses for assigned P&C reinsurance lines, including preparation of loss development reviews, selection and documentation of assumptions, IBNR calculations, and special studies and initiatives.
  • Communicate reserving results, data questions, and emerging observations to actuarial team members and, as appropriate, underwriting, marketing, claims, finance, and management stakeholders.
  • Support financial, and management reporting activities by preparing actuarial inputs, validating data, and assisting with responses to follow-up questions from finance or other stakeholders.
  • Continue progress toward actuarial credentials and apply actuarial exam knowledge to practical reserving, financial reporting, and business problems.
  • Participate in reserving department as well as corporate initiatives such as reserving process improvement and financial/accounting system development.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving ability, attention to detail, communication skills, teamwork, willingness to learn, and the ability to work independently toward practical solutions.
