The Sammarco Laboratory in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mayo Clinic is seeking a highly motivated and intellectually engaged Research Technologist to join a growing research program focused on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of musculoskeletal regeneration. Our laboratory seeks to understand how fundamental cellular processes direct regenerative healing, with the long-term goal of translating these discoveries into therapies that improve musculoskeletal repair and functional recovery. Our research integrates molecular biology, regenerative biology, and advanced imaging to investigate several complementary questions in tissue regeneration. Current areas of investigation include how cellular metabolism, mitochondrial homeostasis and remodeling, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) regulate tissue patterning during regeneration of complex musculoskeletal tissues; the mechanisms by which sensory nerves promote bone regeneration; the role of cellular senescence in regenerative healing; and the molecular pathways that distinguish regenerative repair from fibrosis. Together, these studies aim to identify biological mechanisms that can be leveraged to develop innovative regenerative therapies for patients. The successful candidate will join a collaborative, multidisciplinary laboratory committed to scientific rigor, innovation, and continuous learning.
