About The Position

The Research Technologist will perform a wide variety of routine and non-routine laboratory procedures with general supervision, including chemical, physical, and/or physiological analyses, following established techniques and procedures. This role involves identifying problems, making corrections, and reporting situations to a supervisor, as well as performing routine troubleshooting. The technologist will prepare chemicals and solutions, precisely trim fixed animal tissues, and perform routine data collection and analysis. Responsibilities also include constructing, testing, and operating equipment, performing scheduled calibration, and collecting, recording, reducing, and entering data into computer systems or on paper. The role requires revising and updating SOPs, writing study-specific guides, preparing and labeling tubes and other study-required supplies, bagging fixed tissue for storage, and scheduling shipments of fixed tissues. Maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring proper care and maintenance, and promoting workplace safety are also key functions. The technologist will monitor work areas, equipment, and themselves for contamination and perform decontamination when necessary, along with regular housekeeping duties and cleaning of equipment and supplies. Other related duties as assigned will also be part of the role.

  • May work extensively with animal tissue.
  • Successful completion of a post offer pre-employment physical examination is required.
  • Ability to access Kirtland Air Force Base is required.
  • Successful completion of CDC/DOJ, DOD approval to access Select Agent(s) and Toxin(s) may be required.
  • May be required to work in containment areas such as the ABSL-3 (infectious agent studies), radiation areas or work environments that may require vaccinations/immunizations and successful completion of training as a condition of employment.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and any other required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Must have reliable transportation.

  • Monitors work area, equipment and self for contamination and effects decontamination when necessary.
  • Performs housekeeping duties on a regular basis. May clean equipment and supplies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
