About The Position

Provide technical support in the performance of Research and Approvals tests conducted at the FM Research Campus, primarily in the Large and Small Burn Laboratories, under the direction of the General Foreman. Day-to-day activities includes test setup, instrumentation and equipment troubleshooting as well as firefighting and cleanup efforts.

Requirements

  • High School/Trade School or Military specialist training
  • 3 years general mechanical or electrical experience
  • Experience with or knowledge of product assembly
  • Experience with or knowledge of equipment repair
  • Experience with or knowledge of use of hand and power tools
  • Experience with or knowledge of welding/fabrication
  • Experience with or knowledge of use of instrumentation and sensors
  • Computer literacy
  • Must be able to commute to the FM Research Campus in West Glocester, RI
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders
  • Ability to work at heights
  • Ability to operate vehicles, lift trucks, fork trucks, other vehicles
  • Must be able to work while wearing full Firefighter’s Turnout gear with SCBA for an extended period of time in a wet and smoky environment
  • Must be able to obtain certification for using a personal respirator and work while wearing one for an extended period of time in a wet and smoky environment
  • Must not be claustrophobic and be able to work in tight and cramped spaces
  • Must have a current US Driver’s License
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English
  • Must be able to work while wearing a Fall Protection Harness
  • Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently
  • Ability to understand and follow English instructions

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year laboratory experience preferred
