About The Position

Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a motivated Research Technician to join our Polyolefins Technical organization in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. This role supports catalyst development programs that underpin the company’s polyethylene and polypropylene product lines and influence the performance and competitiveness of our global polyolefins business. The successful candidate will work closely with chemists and engineers to execute laboratory and bench-scale experiments, operate and maintain research equipment, and generate high-quality data to guide technical decisions. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to hands-on research that advances catalyst technologies from concept through commercialization, while maintaining a strong focus on safety, reliability, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma/GED

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of an Associate degree from an accredited institution or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Experience operating or supporting bench-scale reactor systems, including familiarity with high-pressure reactors, their construction, and safe operation.
  • Familiarity with pyrophoric materials and safe handling practices.
  • Hands-on experience with air-sensitive handling techniques, including glove box usage (or similar inert-atmosphere techniques).
  • Exposure to lab automation or high-throughput experimentation approaches (including automated testing workflows).
  • Interest or experience applying data-centric methods to experimental work, such as Design of Experiments, data science, machine learning, or AI-enabled data analysis
  • Experience in operating, calibrating, maintaining and troubleshooting lab equipment, and performing experimental procedures on polymer or plastics and hazardous chemicals.

Responsibilities

  • Work with chemist or engineer to execute desired laboratory and bench-scale experiments.
  • Design and construct experimental units, equipment, and apparatus with guidance from experts.
  • Operate and maintain lab instruments and equipment.
  • Gather and report data on processes and products.
  • Safely handle chemicals and chemical reactions.
  • Conduct basic mechanical work (e.g. basic tubing, fitting and valve assembly using basic tools).
  • Conduct sample analysis using laboratory instruments.
  • Prepare and submit samples for analysis.
  • Maintain research records.
  • Purchase, inventory, store, transfer, recycle and dispose of chemicals up to drum quantities.
  • Perform safety inspections, resolve any safety issues, and maintain safety documentation.
