About The Position

The Schisler Lab at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a dedicated Laboratory Research Technician to support biomedical research on aging, genomics, and complex diseases using mouse models, human systems, and integrative approaches. The primary purpose of this position is to facilitate and support daily laboratory research activities and operations. The successful candidate will assist with maintenance of critical research infrastructure, animal colony support, and compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.

  • Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a research team
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and maintaining laboratory equipment (e.g., liquid nitrogen storage, CO2 incubators, freezers)
  • Assisting with mouse colony management (including genotyping, animal handling, euthanasia in accordance with IACUC protocols, and detailed record-keeping)
  • Performing mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques such as PCR and sample preparation
  • Supporting laboratory organization and research productivity by maintaining inventories, ordering supplies, organizing samples, assisting with experimental setup, and supporting data organization
  • Assisting in maintaining a safe, clean, and compliant laboratory environment
  • May provide guidance to students on laboratory procedures
