The Research Technician III participates in planned research projects by performing research protocols with minimal direction from a principal investigator, program director, or senior scientists. The role may use moderate discretion and judgment in carrying out experiments and interpreting results. The Cardiology Research Laboratory is recruiting an experienced technician for a National Institutes of Health-supported translational cardiovascular research project focused on developing new strategies to treat heart valve disease, including studying serotonin mechanisms involved in disease progression. The work is conducted under the direction of Dr. Robert J. Levy, Director of the CHOP Cardiology Research Laboratory, in collaboration with research teams at CHOP and Columbia University. After initial training, the technician is expected to independently perform cell culture and molecular biology experiments and report to Dr. Levy. The role also contributes to experimental procedure development, supports and guides less experienced research personnel, and participates in shared laboratory operations. Experience with cell and molecular biology techniques is preferred. The successful candidate will have strong communication and organizational skills, meticulous scientific recordkeeping, computer literacy, the ability to work across projects, and the ability to contribute to method development and validation. General laboratory responsibilities include equipment maintenance, hazardous-material management, laboratory upkeep, and other assigned tasks supporting the laboratory’s goals. Employees with patient-facing responsibilities or who work in patient care buildings must receive an annual influenza vaccine as a condition of employment.
