About The Position

Biomedical Engineering is seeking an individual to support the PI's laboratory research. This position supports multiple aspects of in vivo and in vitro experimentation in the laboratory, including mouse colony husbandry with minimal supervision, protein preparation and purification, maintaining laboratory equipment and reagents, and administrative tasks such as ordering associated with day-to-day laboratory maintenance. The individual will implement, create, and write standard lab protocols and may train students or staff on basic laboratory procedures or proper equipment use. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning obtained through experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and monitor mouse colony in sterile vivarium in accordance with laboratory and IACUC standards including: Breeding, timely replacement of breeding mice, and weaning. Mouse identification via ear tagging, toe tipping, and genotyping PCR
  • Execute protocols related to protein preparation and purification including site-directed mutagenesis, bacterial cell transformation, and column purification.
  • Perform administrative support tasks such as: Tracking inventory and ordering supplies in accordance with university purchasing policies. Clean, sterilize, and maintain laboratory equipment. Organize laboratory equipment and prepare standard chemical stocks and buffers
  • Develop, write, and implement standard operating protocols including western blotting, DNA/RNA isolation, and mouse tissue processing.
  • Analyze data for the investigator and prepare summary reports for weekly lab meetings.
  • Keep an accurate and detailed record of experiments and results.
